Let me clarify my statement. There was soil in the glass, but there was also about two inches of water just sitting in with the soil. The soil was basically mud when I got to the poor fellow.

I noticed that there was the color change at the top, is that what concerns you as well?

Oh I see. That's still concerning (I don't know of any cactus that wants to sit in soil so saturated).

I'm not sure what to think about the color change at the top, but what concerns me is that it looks a bit wrinkled. Is it soft to the touch, or "hard" like a cactus should be? Again, I figure there's no harm in trying.

It isn't soft; it is hard just like the rest of the cactus, just a different colour, and going in a bit of a different direction.

I haven't planted him yet. I wanted him to recover a bit from the mud he was planted in, I am going to plant him tomorrow and see how he does from there.
