If you go native, be prepared for the rare deep freeze, like the one two years ago.
For example, I am on the edge of zone 10a, which means we can grow coconut palms, but barely. They've grown in my neighborhood for years and years. That freeze killed ALL of them. Not a single coconut palm to be seen now.
I'd like to have one, but if I can find room for one, I will have plenty of strands of Christmas lights and a ratty blanket to try to protect it (but that's another thread).

I moved from NC to Florida and it looks like I need to learn to garden from scratch! The seasons are different, there is no soil, just sand, and the bug variety is never ending.
I am planting fruit trees and could use any tips on how to feed and keep them healthy organically.

I think it would help a lot if you could say more specifically where you are (city or county) so folks could offer their advice.

My best tip is to make use of the University of Florida's website & your county extension resources - indispensable, as far as I'm concerned. UF has a great vegetable gardening guide, which you can easily find using those keywords.
