Judging by the difficulty that most people have with getting camellias to cooperate inside, I'd advise you to do nothing different than what you have been doing.

I'm not sure what "camellias" are - is that a genus name for gardenias? In the past, when my gardenias get buds, they shrivel up and fall off. It's such a let-down to see all those blooms go to waste. I've been hunting around in here at previous gardenia posts, so I'm trying the "cool nights" method. I've been hauling it downstairs every evening to the dark, somewhat chilly basement. Should I keep doing that until they bloom (or fall off)?

Ha! I do that ALL the time for some reason. Only with these two plants. Crazy. I MEANT gardenia, but said camellia.

Gardenias are notoriously difficult to keep inside the typical home. Temperatures, lack of sufficient sunlight, and low humidities seem to snuff them out. It sounds like you might be on to something; it's certainly worthy of a try.

I FIGURED IT OUT!!!! The explosion is here; so far about 40 of the buds have bloomed! My livingroom smells like heaven. My son is a little jealous - he claims I love the gardenia more than him (ha!) I want to share what the secret was.....once the buds were "on", I hauled the plant to the basement EVERY EVENING - WITHOUT FAIL, and back upstairs by it's south-facing window every morning. That was it! I read it needs 60-degree evening temps to "set" its buds and that's all it took. I'm so happy, I can hardly live with myself! just kidding, but the plant is so gorgeous - it's everything I ever hoped for. So the next time I see a profusion of buds, I'll know just what to do. My gardenia started blooming and i felt like i'd graduated or some sort. I really feel like I did something. Now if i could only get these BOP's to sprout?!
