From what I know, mamey takes a ridiculously long amount of time to fruit from seed - in the 10+ years range. A friend of mine has a grafted tree that's getting close to 20 years old and has a sprout from the roostock which is as thick as my thigh but has yet to even flower. Even grafted trees can take 5+ years to bear fruit. Mamey is the tree of patience.

Yeah. Mamey is the turtle of the sapote family. Buy a grafted magana or pace mamey. Pantin is not precocious and takes a bit longer to fruit. Overall, the wait is worth it. :-)

I have a 4 year old "Excalibur" Mamey that I hope to fruit in a few years in the ground bought mostly to "round out" my collection. I kinda liked the look of a seedling I saw once and grew it as a goof.
