Need roof color for modern white farmhouse now!

Hi. We are agonizing over our exterior colors- white hardiplank (possibly SW snowbound or eider white- neutral/cool, not creamy). We'll have flagstone on the porch and walkway. For the roof we are using landmark certaintied architectural shingles but can't decide on color. Moire black seems a little stark and Georgetown gray a little too light. I am sort of drawn to driftwood, but haven't seen it on a white house. Oh, we'll have a metal roof on the porch and no shutters on our 2/2 windows.

Any thoughts would be appreciated! For some reason this seems to my hardest decision.

How about pewter? I've linked a thread with some pictures.

The best thing to do is to get addresses of houses with the different colors. It really helps to see it on a blue vs the sample boards.

    Red shingles or metal!

    Or green shingles or metal!

    Or galvalume standing rib metal!

    Good luck on your project.

With a white house you can do almost anything. I think a basic three tab asphalt shingle will look better than "architectural". It's a more modest look and you can still get a good warranty.

All metal would be great too!

I agree with VC...before I even saw his post I was thinking red or green....can look fab!

Hi, We are building a VERY similar home here in Indiana. Our exterior was based on the link below and the interior was based on a modern Swedish farm home interior - similar to This Old House's Cambridge 2012 House. We went CRAZY trying to pick a roof and was quoted everything from a 9K shingle to an 85K industrial metal roof. The final choice was a 32K CMG Metals galvanized roof. It was paired with 5" metal round farmhouse galvanized gutters (pricy at 12K). Let me know if you would like any more info. I would be happy to share plans etc.

this is the back of our house during construction. it's driftwood

here's a close up. it really picks up a lot of blue and green. i love it! it's fresh and looks great with Shoji white (the color of our front in stucco)

Hmm, that driftwood looks pretty good. Do you have a photo of the front of your house with the Shoji white against the roof? Shoji white is on our list too for the siding.

I attached a drawing of our house - basically it was a spec house and the builder let us change it from brick to siding and we changed the roof pitch. The door is going to change also. We want to do a metal roof but too expensive - the porch roof will be metal though.

We are in the south, the roof will get full sun, and as you can see there is a lot of roof showing- so I am not a fan of a huge black roof - it was 98 degrees here today!

Here's the front. It's from my phone, so I'm not sure if its "good" of the roof

We are south louisuana- hot hot hot. Driftwood is lighter than black, but probably Not light enough to make a big difference

I think driftwood shingles and the tin porch roof will look nice together

i was really happy with Shoji White. It's a great white. Not too yellow. Part of me wants to use it on the house we are building now but another part of me wants to try something new. I'm looking at overcast by Ben Moore.

Here's Ballet White by Ben Moore, also very pretty, but since this house in our neighborhood has it, i will not "copy".

another i was told to check out is westhighland white by Sherwin Will. This a great looking farmhouse/guesthouse/garage structure. so pretty

Thanks. We are looking at SW Snowbound also, but I need to get a larger sample to make sure it is not too white.

Link is to a white farmhouse with cedar shingles.
If you like the look, CertainTeed has shingles that mimic cedar so you may find something similar..

Oh I like that too - we are in the south, and that roof looks so much cooler than dark gray/black asphalt shingles!

Excuse me, I'm Italian, I can participate in your discussion?

Hi There did you by chance end up doing the driftwood on a white house? I am in the same boat now.
