Damage from vehicles needed to install concrete patio?

I said something to my husband wondering about lawn damage from vehicles driving around the house to dig out & then install the concrete patio we're getting this summer...He said he was told by someone (not the installer, a coworker I believe) not to allow them to use the driveway to access the backyard b/c the vehicles used are too heavy and will damage your driveway so you are supposed to tell them to come in from the back if possible- in our case this would mean driving in from an alley and having to drive on common space close to 1 neighbor's yard though wouldn't have to actually go on their yard. I have trouble believing that this is common and what aobut people who don't have a common space behind their house and have no choice but to use the driveway or side yard? do concrete driveways typically get damaged by this equipment? Seems like it would be a huge problem for patio installers if so.

Is this typical?
