The proper selection for the finish of the trim has a lot to do with the architecture of the home, not merely the other elements next to the trim. How about a few images so a more thoughtful solution can be presented?

Sure. The house is a tri level built in 1958. We vaulted the ceilings and have put in the hickory floor but the floor has not been finished yet.

The kitchen side. The floor will be tile and the cabinets will be maple.

And this is the landing. We have been remodeling for years and did everything on this floor quite awhile ago- except for this space. The stairs and landing will also hickory, the doors are fir.
