It is EXTREMELY fragrant. It tends to grow into arching canes with short flowering laterals. It is not horribly thorny but it is fairly well armed. Mine has been growing in Western Washington where after we have our winter/spring rains it does not rain too much from mid June until mid September.

Thank you paparoseman! Do you think it's best as a climber or a large shrub? How is the disease resistance? I wonder if It needs a wall or just a large spot to grow. :)

I also have this one, and in my zone 5 part shade location it has nice color but doesn't get very big or bloom very often. I don't know if it's the cold or site or both, but mine doesn't get much above about 3' and only blooms every now and then. I'll probably try him in an additional site with more sun - I just wanted those lovely colors to show up darker in the protected spot. And yes, it is fragrant even to my poor nose.

Oh, okay. I‘ve wanted to grow this but It’s been difficult to find much information on it. It looks beautiful, the fragrance sounds wonderful, and is reportedly fairly disease resistant - I wonder why it is not more widely grown. I think I will go ahead and give it a try this year.

Will do! I just ordered it from Joy Creek. I was hoping RU would have it this spring since there is one other rose I wanted from them but they do not have it available.
