I like the teal suggested by Darzy and love the example in her first photo. It's a friendly look. Here's another one you might like. It's muted green and might also work for you. I'd suggest getting some large poster board and painting some samples once you narrow the colors down.

Dark grey or White for a classic timeless look. I would aso add a lot of greenery i.e. iceberg roses. Beautiful home you have with so much space!

You have gotten great suggestions! I would drive through other neighborhoods to see what houses really amaze and wow you with their color combos. That way you will actually see colors in play on other homes before you change yours. That is what I did when I changed the colors on my house. I will admit I then chose colors (and like them) that I would not have otherwise.

My first thougth was blue; like the ones Darzy suggested, but with the house color and brick color you can go with any color you like: red, teal, rust, green, or whatever you can imagine!

ohhhhhhh!!!!!! now you've complicated matters. i have considered french blue as well as white or dark grey. who's got a good updated dark grey, it's the 2013 color trend, isn't it. are we talking just shutters. should i restain door in same shad? if so, maybe a reddish/orange shutter; not sure hoa wld approve

One more combo for you---BM colors--- 1630 Ocean Floor and either 1372 Ultra Violet or 1379 Eggplant. Go Bold with color---you did say you wanted your home to "POP"---Love all the colors mentioned---you have a lot of paint chips to gather---have fun and enjoy the process... :) CheerS!

Ocean Floor would fall into the periwinkle range---dark and gray bluish/purple... I am not a maroon girl-too warm red for me... BIG difference between the two. Look at the links---maroon, plum, and eggplant. See if any appeal to you. I do like the periwinkle. Deep shade...

Are you going to paint your door the same color as the shutters? If you like pops of color, I might mix it up a bit. We spray painted our doors in a former home a Ford Escort purple (kind of a blackberry color) and the shutters were a deep green. In our current home, we sprayed the doors (all 4 of them) a Viper red. (we have a gray vinyl-sided colonial with black shutters) The door paints are actual car paints and hold up extremely well in our New England weather. Spraying them gives them a beautiful professional finish. If you are handy, you can buy a small sprayer (used with an air compressor) and do it yourself or some body work companies will do it for you. The paint can run about $100 due to having to purchase the paint, the hardener and the reducer, but there are tons of car paint colors to choose from. We kept our eye on various cars as they drove by and chose our color from that larger sample rather than the postage-sized sample in the paint chip book! (For that $100, we did 4 doors and still have some paint left) Love your choice of Autumn Purple! Yummy! Good luck!

On second thought. One of our neighbors did their front door and shutters a purple and it looked fun at first, but now not so much. :)

Dear calisgirlsmom... WOW! Auto spray paint? You must be very proficient with the sprayer. Did it ever run on you? My friend once spray painted a wicker chair and got so caught up in it running around the chair as fast as she could holding the spray button down as hard as she could (she was afraid if she stopped it would leave a streak so she frantically kept going.) When finally finished she noticed she had spray painted her bare feet. As luck would have it she had a pool party to go to that evening. Once (back in1965) I drove a friend's 1953 candy apple red Ford. And that's another story...

When we're trying to look at trim colors for a house with brick or stone, we just stand in front of the surface with a color deck and just fan through until some area catches someone's eye. Then, we look at the other colors similar to that and get to a general idea then try to narrow it down enough to buy a sample or two. I like to try colors already in the picture and try to tie the trimwork to the body of the house. However, since your stonework is not a prominent element (from the limited view of the pictures), you have more leeway with color choices

We used auto spray paint as we figured it would withstand sleet, ice and snow and sun better than regular spray paint or other exterior paint. Plus you can add the clear-coat protectant to give it a nice gloss finish. My husband had become pretty good at the spraying. He uses a big piece of cardboard for a test surface to make sure the spray nozzle is set to a fine spray. It will be an easier job for you to stain your doors than to spray them so that is a nice perk for you. Attached are pics of a couple of the doors that we did.
