Growth on tree trunk remains

Hi,

This is growing on the remains of an old tree trunk. The trunk is 8+ feet tall and still planted in the ground although the tree is dead for last 2 years. What can I do to prevent this growth?

I haven't made much of an effort to uproot the trunk since it's right next to the deck and hard to remove. In the mean time I've been using it as a nail post to hang flower backet from the top.

Please advise what I should do with this.

Fungus feeding on the decaying wood. Solution...remove the dead tree. The fungus will leave with it.

Would it be suffice to cut it down to the ground? Or would I need to grind the stump as well?

its dead .. cut to ground.. ignore rest ... unless you need that precise spot for something else

shrooms are one of natures decomposers ..... it is doing its job, decomposing a dead tree ...

do not be surprised.. if you dont see them popping out of the ground for the next decade.. as they decompose the rather massive dead root system ...

frankly.. i consider them.. a free show of ma nature ... you cant really go planting a garden of them.. so enjoy them.. while they are around
