A single slab of a pool table weighs about 300 lbs and only covers 3 x 8 ft .and how will you join them together you noticed in the pic you posted it was used only for the island

Also, keep in mind that many pool tables sold for home use have a bed that is made of 2 or 3 pieces of slate, not one big one. And many don't have slate at all, just a composite.

You can buysiapstone slabs for DIY probably less than you can do pool tables. If you have to pay labor on anything though, there is no savings over the traditional stone fabrication route.

This recycled granite cost the homeowner about $40.00 per square foot, labor only, and I didn't have to do a sink cut-out as I would for a pool-table slate job.

Thanks for all your input! I should have clarified that our Craigslist looks to have many FREE pool tables. I didn't mean that I would buy pool tables. That's what made it seem so appealing.

But can you work the stone? Yourself? The labor is the biggest part of any job.

Working with reclaimed, repurposed, vintage, salvage, used, recycled or favorite adjective here materials is expensive. I buy used appliances, have reinstalled kitchen cabinets and granite, removed and reinstalled wood flooring and have pool table slate in my garden. It is a way to get unique results and substitute time and effort for cash but not a cheap approach.

I also have two big, burly and talented construction guys who indulge the whims of their tolerant and patient landlord.

Victoria's husband is not a novice. (Victoria's blog is the site noted above.) He is very experienced and has the right tools.

You're mistaking the OP's inspiration for the OP. The OP hasn't even said if they own a router and a 60" level. Much less all of the rest needed.

Also keep in mind that slate is soft- we have a slate counter in our wetbar area and it's already beaten to death after just a few months. We like the patina, but not everyone does!
