Agreed. It seems to be nothing more than a fancy speed oven that they already make. Plus is that perhaps I can find a good deal on one of their "older" speed ovens now.

Did you even click on the link or spend a few seconds to read about this revolutionary oven? every site that has an article about this oven explained a little bit how this oven is diff from just another microwave oven. From watching the demo video, they cooked a piece of fish inside a block of ice. The ice didn't melt but the fish was done perfectly. I bet you can't do that with a regular microwave or speed oven. I guess this is the problem for companies trying to introduce new revolutionary products, average consumers don't want to research it and jump to conclusion quickly. This oven would be a tough sell for Miele, especially at close to $10k.

I have no need to cook fish in ice. And I'm considerably suspicious of how that is possible. Conduction of heat would melt the ice to at least some degree even if the radio frequencies are precisely focused on the fish. Maybe it's a sushi dish.

They might have great success with the ice-fishing crew... straight from the frozen lake to your plate :)

In all seriousness, it's a very interesting piece of technology but clearly not geared towards the "average cook", at least for a few years until (and if) the technology becomes more popular and more accessible. I'm sure someone said the same thing about microwave ovens many years ago though...

It is competing with something like the Irinox Freddy and Zero. Irinox has not advertised this unit so very little feedback is available for it. I think Pirch in NY has a display model.

I would buy the Miele. Just because I am ready to replace my current oven in about a year:-)

I'm not sure yet what the advantages are of the new Miele oven.

Anyone remember Whirlpool's Polara range that refrigerated and baked? Pop in a frozen or refrigerated dish before leaving for work in the morning, set the controls and the oven would keep the food cool through the day and bake it to be ready for dinner upon returning home.
