Identify cabinet color

Thought I'd take a chance and see if anyone else has fallen in love with the cabinet color in this ad for slate appliances.

Any thoughts on what color it might be?

Have you contacted the marketing department of the appliance manufacturer? Sometimes they have information about what went into certain vignettes.

On my screen it appears to have a blue tint to it. Does it look gray or blue to you?

In addition, encycolorpedia. com does call it a medium dark shade of blue.

The data on encycolorpedia is garbage. No one should ever use it for anything.... ever, never, ever times infinity.

Peppercorn belongs to the purple hue family. Right around the middle to end of the purple hue family which means it will look like just a super dark purple -- possibly with moments of reddish overtones in certain light. It has an LRV of 10 and that's dark.

When you look at Peppercorn on the strip (#236 in the fandeck), most would assume it's greenish because all the other colors on that strip belong to hue families in the green-yellow to green hue family neighborhood. In context of the other colors on that strip, it's hard to get a read on what Peppercorn really looks like.

This is why it's bad advice to tell someone to look at the color on the bottom of the color strip for clues about the color characteristics of all the colors on the strip. It doesn't work. You have to evaluate each color independently from the others on the strip.

Cabinet color in the picture almost doesn't matter. Number 1: it's a picture. Doubtful color hue and saturation seen is the same as in real life. Number 2: your kitchen will not have the same lighting as what's in the picture, so even that same color may look different in your space. Plus colors on floor, walls, backsplash, etc. will all influence how you perceive any other color. Number 3: S-W or other paint companies' colors are not typically offered as pigmented lacquers by cabinet companies unless you pay for custom finishing. Having worked in the color business before I began in cabinets, I can tell you the best advice for choosing a cabinet color is to do so in the space where the cabinets will reside. Have other elements already specified. (Or conversely, pick out a cabinet color and use it to specify floor, wall, backsplash, etc). And above all, understand that your brain will see the entire package of color and texture as a whole - even when your eyes focus on only one element. Peripheral vision continues to fire neurons that "sense" outlying colors and influence how you see things. Looking at a picture and liking something to the extent you "just have to have it" can often leave you disappointed. Finally, don't forget whatever is in your kitchen will have to visually "flow" into other rooms the kitchen opens into.

While it's difficult to tell from a picture, the color looks like Merillat's Pebble Gray. However, when they stage a set for a photo shoot, they very rarely use expensive cabinets to do so. Pebble Gray belong's to Merillat's high end line.

Definitely a bluish gray, but more on the green than the purple end. Looks different on every surface in there, so you're going to need to take the photo and pull a bunch of swatches to try at home.
