I would get bigger rug, wall art above the FP mantel and on the walls and curtains

First step, I would pick a color scheme. For example, if you did this grey/burgundy scheme below you could then find artwork, pillows, accessories with these colors. Your fireplace mantel and the wall above your sofa could use some wall art.

I like your current lamps and the side tables seem fine too. I would switch to a round coffee table beings there are many angular pieces in the room. I would also try to find a coffee table with materials other than wood, add some texture.

Lastly, a rug that is large enough to be under the legs of the sofa and loveseat would be ideal.

Agreed with these suggestions. Rug should go under the sofas and stop about 8" in front of the fireplace, and if possible extend all the way to the chair, if that's not too costly or creating a trip hazard for what might be an entry on the R foreground.

A mirror on either above the fireplace (round) or on the love seat wall (long rectangle) could work, instead of art on all 3 walls - hard to tell without the entire layout. make it nice and big! it would be a statement and add character.

I'd be tempted to either paint the fireplace wall a few shades darker. A few shades darker will make a distinction, and that wall looks dark anyway with two windows in it, so that's an easy way to make that space more distinct. Or wallpaper it, but cannot see how far it extends.

A gallery wall above the love seat would work, too and if laid out to be longer than tall, will make that end wall look longer.

Where do you sit to watch the TV? the chair in the foreground looks lost... Maybe its up against a console or countertop? Again, hard to see what to do without the floor plan.

Thank you for all the great advice! I am adding a couple more pics! We just renovating our whole kitchen and the wall with fire place extends in to my kitchen . We removed the railing which leads to our sunken family room ( will replace railing but not sure what kind yet )
