My mom always called them sticktights...thats what i call them too have no idea their true name.

Interesting—I looked up "sticktight" online and it turns up a plant called a bur marigold which is a part of the genus Bidens. However, looking at the selection of Bidens in the Atlas of Florida Plants I find no seeds which look like the ones which plague doggie and me.

I was in the yard earlier moving a few agaves for the winter. We have spanish needle and beggar ticks out there.

I was covered w seeds from both. The flat pods are green before they turn brown.

I used to have the sweetest little Key West hen who was crazy for the flat pods and would pick off every one of them and eat them lol. Sure miss her!

Yes, I'd like to have someone like her around after I walk the dog. Altho' he barely tolerates my picking them off, let alone a hen!

I call them all hitchhikers , and they do . it it’s the way they spread their seeds. I use peanut oil . good luck

Uproot them upon appearance in yard. Additional plants will shoot from far-traveling roots. Roots are strong but break where pulling is impeded by something.

I grow two in large pots, for Longtailed Skippers. I remove the pods, or the spent flowers.
