I second wdccruise recommendations and for simple gas and electric smoothtop and electric coil ranges with pyrolitic self-clean again either Frgidaire built Kenmore, Frigidaire or GE. Please avoid any Whirlpool, Kitchenaid, Maytag or Amana with low temp steam "self-clean" as this is ineffective at best and a big disappointment for most who expect a clean result after a self-clean cycle. Be aware that most current ranges have an electronic control board which may not be as long lived as older mechanical controls so a long extended warranty might be something to consider.

My DIL has Bosch all gas 30” range and I use it from time to time and it works well.

We need a gas 30" freestanding model. I liked the look of the LG stoves but have heard the finishes are not durable. Whirlpool gets great reliability ratings but seems cheaply made. Haven't seen many GE ranges but the are wil rated.

What you will get here is nothing but anecdotes--personal experience, just like the other online forums you visited. You need research--data, not anecdotes--that's what Consumer Reports is for (and other reliable sources). Check the current issue (August 2019) for a brand-by-appliance list.
