There was 2 spikes that grew but one died .

This is normal growth for these plants. If you want a bigger fuller specimen leave the new shoots in the same pot.

Yes, that is how I ended up with two prayer plants. They have both grown vigorously since I found the right pots and site, and there are probably a few more offshoots I could divide now.

Prayer plants are rhizomatous. New shoots and roots develop at the nodes of the underground stems (rhizome).
