OK, I know this is getting old but......

My first year Plantaginea has shot up a flower stalk! What is going on in my yard with all these hostas sending up such late bloom? I hope it stays warm enough for it to bloom. Today was 80, but nights are in the low 60s this week.

I hope it opens up for you too! My plantaginea looks OK, but I don't see any blooms coming. Today was a nice warm day but for the next few days we are going to have temperatures around 60 in the day and the 40's at night. Oh no! I don't like that!

do you think it could be more available water ... the heat of the day not sucking it all out of the soil at root depth??? .. cool nights ... etc???

Thank you utog, it feels like a fitting reward.

newhostalady, I was not expecting a flower at all since it’s first year, I couldn’t believe my eyes.

ken, you are right about all of that..... I have kept the “sun” hostas watered very well this summer. And it is cooling at night, 60s mostly, so with sun, mild temperatures and plenty of water, I am praying it will bloom........🙏🏽

I will just add on here rather than start another post......

but craziness continues in my yard. Now Fire Island is blooming....... it hasn’t bloomed since I moved it to its current spot. I think it was buried to deep when moved. I planned to reset it this summer, but with my surgery, a lot of things didn’t get done. Here’s a pic on 9/23/2020

My old So Sweet is putting up a scape. It finished blooming a month ago. Now, its sending out new flushes of leaves and putting up a scape. It's been sending out new flushes of leaves all summer, but it's nearly October!

How odd! It's never done this before.

am having the same. Some plants with active seedpods suddenly putting up another scape. I would love to know what is behind this mechanism. We had so much heat and dry weather this summer... I would love to improve my scape setting if I can.

Here’s the update for my crazy bloomers.......

We are having warm (75-80 degrees) temperatures this week so I hope this will get Plantaginea to open up. No frosts yet and none in sight in the next several days. 🤞🏽

this is the last on this post

Wide Brim with its two blooms

Fire Island with its three blooms

Plantaginea came in three days ago, in sugar water, but she’s not going to bloom

Now I am pretty sure Plantaginea will bloom next year, hopefully much earlier.
