Proper Prep before Primer/Paint

Hello,

In November, we had our bathroom painted a medium gray in satin enamel on textured drywall (orange peel). I cannot stand the color and I want to repaint white. We will attempt this job rather than hiring professionals to save some money.

I understand that washing & sanding are generally best practices. However, since my walls were recently painted and clean (as best I can tell), do I really need to wash? And do I need to sand or can I find a primer product with good adhesion to satin enamel? I'm afraid sanding would ruin the wall texture.

Thank you!
