Good post. Kitchens can be the center of attention if you have an open floor plan as most new construction has. One thing to remember is not to make it so busy that every element says "look at me". If your floor has a busy pattern then keep the counter tops plain or if you have granite tops keep the back splash and the floor plain. Please have only one "look at me" surface. Otherwise a lot of pattern is confusing.

Flexing Your Design-Muscle for an Stunning Island

Why not make the focal-point of your kitchen, the island. Sacrificing 8 inches at the end of the island, will go a long way design-wise for a new display shelf.

Simply add:

- 1 valance

- 1 shelf

- 2 legs

Get really creative and inlay a panel of wainscoting for a cottage vibe. You'll be the envy the envy at this year's Thanksgiving dinner as they ooh-and-aah over your new island master piece.
