Mood Indigo: 11 Reasons to Love This Rich Blue
Get inspired to add this dashing shade of blue to every room in the house
Amid my fleeting love affairs with color (thanks for the memories, orange), there's one old flame I've never abandoned: indigo. Classic and complex, it lends a dash of mystique to the comforting familiarity of blue. Here are a dozen great ways to layer it into a room.
I could stare at this gorgeous composition all day. Pure white looks luminous against the saturated indigo walls and floor — it's an arresting matchup.
The intricate design on this chest, stunning both for its color and pattern, looks as though it were painted with India ink. And the way the picture frame pulls the color upward is a nice touch.
This living area looks as crisp and tailored as a blue blazer paired with a white shirt. Pale blue in the kitchen is a nice reflection of its darker counterpart.
Blue kitchen cabinets always catch my eye, and these have the faded, textured appeal of denim. The blue is a nice middle ground between the white cabinets and dark floor.
Here's another take on an indigo kitchen — this one much sleeker and more contemporary. The glossy cabinets cool down the blue and give it a mod spin.
Wow — this overscale mural is an eye-popper. The room feels as though it's wrapped in a big, cozy indigo cardigan.
The high-gloss indigo walls here are wonderful, but that desk is the crowning touch. The shiny finish comes from car paint — too cool!
Deep blues and oxblood reds give a classic color pairing fresh appeal. I love seeing a sunroom that isn't done in tropical brights or washed-out, beachy colors.
