Innovative Design Build, Inc
Innovative Design Build was hired to remodel an existing fireplace in a single family home in Boca Raton, Florida. We were not to change the footprint of the fireplace or to replace the fire box. Our design brought this outdated dark bulky fireplace that looked like it belonged in a log cabin, into 2020 with a modern sleeker design. We replaced the whole surround including the hearth and mantle, as well as painted the side walls. The clients, who prefer a more coastal design, loved the traditional brick pattern for the surround, so we used creamy colors in a multi format design to give it a lot of texture. Then we chose a beautiful porcelain slab that was cut using mitered edges for a seamless look. We then stained a custom mantle to match other wood tones in their home tying it into the surrounding furniture. Finally we painted the walls in a lighter greige tone to compliment the newly remodeled fireplace. This project was finished in under a month, just in time for the clients to enjoy the Christmas holiday.

Cummings Architecture + Interiors
The historic restoration of this First Period Ipswich, Massachusetts home (c. 1686) was an eighteen-month project that combined exterior and interior architectural work to preserve and revitalize this beautiful home. Structurally, work included restoring the summer beam, straightening the timber frame, and adding a lean-to section. The living space was expanded with the addition of a spacious gourmet kitchen featuring countertops made of reclaimed barn wood. As is always the case with our historic renovations, we took special care to maintain the beauty and integrity of the historic elements while bringing in the comfort and convenience of modern amenities. We were even able to uncover and restore much of the original fabric of the house (the chimney, fireplaces, paneling, trim, doors, hinges, etc.), which had been hidden for years under a renovation dating back to 1746.
Winner, 2012 Mary P. Conley Award for historic home restoration and preservation

Dining room walls before was so dark with wood paneling on all walls. Both sides of the fireplace were flanked by old wood bookcases. We removed the left side one and opened the wall behind it to create a home office behind it. Clients decided to keep the wood burning fireplace (installed a gas insert in the living room) in this room but we covered the red brick with a board and batten style paneling. We sourced a rustic wood mantle piece to create a nice contrast.

The kitchen includes stainless steel counters, an antique butcher block table, wood windows with hinged screens, vintage sconces from an early 1900’s Wisconsin cabin, and vintage copper Pâté molds from France hanging on the wall beyond.

“Very exciting home that recalls Swedish Classicism of the early part of the 20th century. Effortless combination of traditional and modern influences. Achieves a kind of grandeur with simplicity and confidence.”
This project uses familiar shapes, proportions and materials to create a stately home for modern living. The house utilizes best available strategies to be environmentally responsible, including proper orientation for best natural lighting and super insulation for energy efficiency.
Inspiration for this design was based on the need to show others that a grand house can be comfortable, intimate, bright and light without needing to resort to tired and pastiche elements and details.
A generous range of Marvin Windows and Doors created a sense of continuity, while giving this grand home a bright and intimate atmosphere. The range of product also guaranteed the ultimate design freedom, and stayed well within client budget.

A new stone fireplace becomes the focal point of any room, but without a wood mantel, the fireplace looks incomplete. Wood mantels take on a personality of their own. You can easily mix a formal mantel with a rougher textured stone or take a more formal or traditional stone and blend it with a slightly distressed beam mantel.
Look through the pictures and start dreaming of your new stone fireplace and mantel.

Using a cultured ledgestone in a tightstacked design we were able to custom design this beautiful outdoor fireplace and kitchen combination. With built in woodboxes on each side of fireplace this gas fireplace insert was designed with the ability to be removed and replaced with a woodburning firebox. Using stone caps to finish the the raised hearth offers ample seating room around the fireplace for those crisp, cool Northwest Evenings. With the built in kitchen attached and complete with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, this outdoor bbq can transend from a casual dinner outdoors to a relaxing evening by the fire. This is the entrance to backyard, side view of outdoor fireplace and grill with stone columns.
