We demolished an existing house that was built in the mid-1900s and built this house in its place. Everything about this new house is top-notch - from the materials used to the craftsmanship. The existing house was about 1600 sf. This new house is over 5000 sf. We made great use of space throughout, including the livable attic with a guest bedroom and bath.

We were thrilled to be involved with all aspects of this build. Including the interior design, exterior Finish selection and the home staging with furniture and accessories.
The beautiful three-level family home sits in the most popular location for new home construction in Kelowna; Skylands at Wilden. The home plan includes four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and luxurious family friendly finishes throughout.
The kitchen opens up to the outdoor living space via a 14 foot folding door; a real outdoor experience.
The home features stunning cork plank flooring, Two tone kitchen with teal colored accent island, and oversized lighting. A custom fireplace mantle and surround with a quartz hearth that extends the whole width of the living.
It was fun to finish the home with furniture and accessories; having a nursery and boys bedroom shows the true potential for a growing family. The master bedroom and ensuite it a great escape too.
Design First Interiors
The key living spaces of this mountainside house are nestled in an intimate proximity to a granite outcrop on one side while opening to expansive distant views on the other.
Situated at the top of a mountain in the Laurentians with a commanding view of the valley below; the architecture of this house was well situated to take advantage of the site. This discrete siting within the terrain ensures both privacy from a nearby road and a powerful connection to the rugged terrain and distant mountainscapes. The client especially likes to watch the changing weather moving through the valley from the long expanse of the windows. Exterior materials were selected for their tactile earthy quality which blends with the natural context. In contrast, the interior has been rendered in subtle simplicity to bring a sense of calm and serenity as a respite from busy urban life and to enjoy the inside as a non-competing continuation of nature’s drama outside. An open plan with prismatic spaces heightens the sense of order and lightness.
The interior was finished with a minimalist theme and all extraneous details that did not contribute to function were eliminated. The first principal room accommodates the entry, living and dining rooms, and the kitchen. The kitchen is very elegant because the main working components are in the pantry. The client, who loves to entertain, likes to do all of the prep and plating out of view of the guests. The master bedroom with the ensuite bath, wardrobe, and dressing room also has a stunning view of the valley. It features a his and her vanity with a generous curb-less shower stall and a soaker tub in the bay window. Through the house, the built-in cabinets, custom designed the bedroom furniture, minimalist trim detail, and carefully selected lighting; harmonize with the neutral palette chosen for all finishes. This ensures that the beauty of the surrounding nature remains the star performer.

Drewett Works
With adjacent neighbors within a fairly dense section of Paradise Valley, Arizona, C.P. Drewett sought to provide a tranquil retreat for a new-to-the-Valley surgeon and his family who were seeking the modernism they loved though had never lived in. With a goal of consuming all possible site lines and views while maintaining autonomy, a portion of the house — including the entry, office, and master bedroom wing — is subterranean. This subterranean nature of the home provides interior grandeur for guests but offers a welcoming and humble approach, fully satisfying the clients requests.
While the lot has an east-west orientation, the home was designed to capture mainly north and south light which is more desirable and soothing. The architecture’s interior loftiness is created with overlapping, undulating planes of plaster, glass, and steel. The woven nature of horizontal planes throughout the living spaces provides an uplifting sense, inviting a symphony of light to enter the space. The more voluminous public spaces are comprised of stone-clad massing elements which convert into a desert pavilion embracing the outdoor spaces. Every room opens to exterior spaces providing a dramatic embrace of home to natural environment.

The material palette began with a rich, tonal, large-format Quartzite stone cladding. The stone’s tones gaveforth the rest of the material palette including a champagne-colored metal fascia, a tonal stucco system, and ceilings clad with hemlock, a tight-grained but softer wood that was tonally perfect with the rest of the materials. The interior case goods and wood-wrapped openings further contribute to the tonal harmony of architecture and materials.

Designed with an open floor plan and layered outdoor spaces, the Onaway is a perfect cottage for narrow lakefront lots. The exterior features elements from both the Shingle and Craftsman architectural movements, creating a warm cottage feel. An open main level skillfully disguises this narrow home by using furniture arrangements and low built-ins to define each spaces’ perimeter. Every room has a view to each other as well as a view of the lake. The cottage feel of this home’s exterior is carried inside with a neutral, crisp white, and blue nautical themed palette. The kitchen features natural wood cabinetry and a long island capped by a pub height table with chairs. Above the garage, and separate from the main house, is a series of spaces for plenty of guests to spend the night. The symmetrical bunk room features custom staircases to the top bunks with drawers built in. The best views of the lakefront are found on the master bedrooms private deck, to the rear of the main house. The open floor plan continues downstairs with two large gathering spaces opening up to an outdoor covered patio complete with custom grill pit.

The original shaker kitchen in this rustic lake house was finished in dark stained wood with traditional details. In an effort to update and modernize the home, we incorporated blued steel exteriors with welded steel frames surrounding doors, drawers and glass centered panels. While preserving the original layout and function, a completely new aesthetic was achieved. This modern/edgy design allowed the client to escape the original traditional constraints of the space providing the opportunity to introduce modern furniture and artwork throughout the rest of the home.

This pool was rebuilt from its previous location, in the backyard and away from the house, to the side yard and elevated 8' to bring it in line with the house. A pool house with a fireplace, seating, and draperies was added at one end, while a water feature and spa were added to the side. Lush plantings were incorporated to the entire property, pool area, in coordinating pots and urns.
The pool decking is blue stone.

“The idea of the “three sisters” tea station was inspired by Chekhov’s famous play!” quips furniture designer Johnny Grey “For sisters read three cupboards seeking to find an identity in a modern world - but interpreted here as the difficulty of find space of all the storage needed – tea, coffee or a glass for an alcoholic beverage!”
Below the cupboards is a hot and cold water dispenser, drinks fridge and work surface which provides space for serving anyone visiting for a sociable drink.
Grey has cleverly mixed traditions in this piece. The rough oak barrel which houses a sink, and waste bin on the back of the door is reminiscent of an old wine barrel. It is made of solid English pippy oak with artisan metal bands commissioned from Paul Jobst.
The “three sisters” cupboards echo a refined Chinese tea house. They are made from laminated oak bent round formers in three diameters, in gold leaf and hand painted finishes. LED lights are imbedded in the back for night time illumination. This reinforces the circular shape and adds an interesting shadow line.
