The Teen Project

Eclectic Bathroom, Los Angeles

Vanessa DeVargas of Turquoise (www.turquoise-la.com) asked the Property Sisters Marilynn Taylor and Allison Allain to remodel a bathroom for a charity called The Teen Project (www.TheTeenProject.org), a landing pad for homeless teens in Venice, CA. Allan Dallatore (www.DallatoreDesign.com) pitched in as co-designer with Marilynn for this very special project. It features thassos floor tiles, Toto fixtures, frameless shower glass by Oscar G., and a hand painted wall border by Marilynn. Charity projects always have little to no budget, so we found creative ways to work with what was already in the room. Allison removed an awkwardly placed sconce and installed flanking sconces as well as smoothed the walls for paint. Marilynn and Allan found a way to work with the plywood vanity box by covering it with heater grate painted a contrasting black to the yellow. The mirror is from Ikea and spray painted a matching Rustoleum yellow. All accessories from World Market. This bathroom is a designer's tribute to teens journey to getting off the street and improving their lives.
