Completely enclosed in glass, this custom wine cellar in Hermosa Beach, Los Angeles, California, is sure to turn some heads. Located directly off of the kitchen and dining room, this custom wine room / glass wine cellar / modern wine cellar / contemporary wine cellar holds upwards of 200 bottles. Glass, Metal, and stone are all utilized in our favorite combination for a gorgeous contemporary masterpiece. Double deep metal wine racks / metal wine racking is utilized here, placed a few feet off of the ground to allow for potential case storage space on the tile below. Black metal wine racking was also chosen, as opposed to silver metal wine racks in order to really make the space pop. The glass here is single pane. Master Wine Cellar Builders and Design Build team at Vintage Cellars recommend using dual paned, thermally insulated glass in wine cellars to minimize potential for condensation, as well as making sure that your wine cellar is able to maintain proper temperature and humidity constantly. Single pane glass simply does not have a high enough R Value of insulation, though it can make the space look a bit more clean and elegant. The cooling system was recessed and ducted into the ceiling to ensure the minimalist look was achieved for this wine cellar / glass wine cellar / modern wine room / modern glass wine cellar / modern glass wine room / contemporary wine room. The cooling unit was an RM Coil, traditionally mounted into the racks - but in this instance was recessed into the ceiling. The cooling unit and heat load calculation took into account that there were two large walls of glass here - knowing fully that there would be substantial heat loss through the large single panes on either end. Within the room, beige stone accentuates the contemporary / modern look and matches stunningly with the color scheme and other design features in the surrounding rooms as well. the ivory painted cabinets continue into the butler's pantry which we modernized with a heavy scale woven basket weave tile backsplash. we topped the white cabinets with pietra Cardoza grey counters.

Architectural Plastics was contracted by Jean-Charles Boisset, the new owner of the historic Oakville Grocery, to turn a walk-in freezer into a light and airy wine cellar. The goal was to create a modern wine cellar that kept some of the industrial feel of the freezer. The ceiling and one wall of the cellar were left with the original patinated metal lining of the freezer. Industrial ceiling lights were added as an aesthetic accompaniment to the exposed metal. The original flooring was also left in place. Reclaimed wood toe kicks were added to bring in some warmth and tie in with the external wood-framed windows of the room. Architectural Plastics then clad one wall in floor to ceiling LED panels with a 5000K color temperature to brighten the space up. The LED panels are a great compliment to Architectural Plastics' clear acrylic wine rack line because they make the racks glow and almost vanish. Some additional white acrylic panels were added to hide the remaining metal walls of the cellar and act as signage for the store. Several acrylic wine racks were then designed, made and installed by Architectural Plastics. This stunning space is an excellent example of the versatility of clear acrylic to blend with any design aesthetic.

Welcome to the Champagne Room. The homeowner wanted a room specifically for people to come in, sit down and enjoy a glass of champagne or wine. In this room there is a white wine and red wine fridge along with a free standing cabinet that holds glassware and bottles of liquor. The Champagne room can be easily closed off from the rest of the house with the custom contemporary barn doors with stainless steel hardware.

A view from the living area into the kitchen and wine room Here you can see another example of making the home contemporary in style, with the floor to ceiling, glass enclosure for the wine room. You can also see how we turned the corner and carried the cabinet panel along the wall. It is hard to make out but there is a hidden, push to open door, that leads into the walk in pantry. A subtle detail but we thought it would provide a touch if interest along this wall surface.
