We could not have been happier with John's work for our apartment combination project. Throughout the whole process, he was reliable, quick to respond, and stayed on top of all of the moving parts, including dealing with our co-op's extensive requirements. I've already recommended him to a coworker who is planning her own renovation, and wouldn't hesitate to use him again if we ever need an architect in the future.

I would highly recommend John for any architectural, design, and construction management services. Our renovation entailed moving the kitchen from the back of the apartment to the front, adding a second bathroom, and a second bedroom in an old pre-war coop building John thoughtfully listened to all our wants/concerns and came up with a great plan. His experience and diligence in the early stages of the project significantly limited the surprises we experienced during the renovation, and he quickly came up with effective solutions for any surprises we did experience.. We love the apartment that John designed and the spec sheet he put together (everything from light fixtures to bathroom fittings) was critical for our timely completion of the project. I also highly recommend the construction management to help keep contractors in line. When dealing with contractors, it really helps to have someone on your side who can push them to do things that will result in the best outcome for you. Aside from his expertise and breadth of experience as an architect, John is an effective communicator and quickly responds whenever there are questions. At some of the larger firms, your main point of contact is a junior architect, and while there is nothing wrong with that, we felt it was very beneficial to be speaking directly with John.

We worked with John on a major renovation that included redesigning our kitchen and living room, as well as adding a brand-new bathroom. From the beginning, he took the time to truly understand our needs and priorities, and brought creative, functional solutions to the table. Throughout the process, he stayed closely involved—not just in the design phase, but also in coordinating with the contractor team to ensure everything was executed smoothly and to plan. We’re incredibly happy with how everything turned out and would gladly recommend John to anyone planning a home renovation.

We’ve been working with John to complete our first Brooklyn apartment renovation and would highly recommend his services. This was our first renovation and John has been extremely helpful walking us through all the necessary steps and generally just making the whole process less intimidating. We initially chose John’s services because he truly listened to our goals and vision for the space and was able to translate these into a layout which matched exactly what we were hoping for. We are working with John to convert our three-family Sunnyside Gardens townhouse to a one-family home. John presented several creative options to reconfigure our second floor and to connect the first and second floors. After finalizing the drawings, he managed the contractor bidding process; we decided on the contractor John recommended (who is also an excellent, top-notch professional). During construction, he has reviewed the progress of the work and has quickly managed any needed adjustments. John is efficient, responsive, and incredibly easy to work with. We have already recommended John to several friends and will happily continue to do so!

My husband and I worked with John to draw up plans for a full basement renovation. John is a great listener and came up with a beautiful functional design - something we would never have envisioned on our own. He provided us with an estimate ahead of time and kept close to it. Unfortunately we were not able to use the plans because the renovation cost was out of our range. But we are so glad we worked with John. He is professional and reliable and we love his style. John has been outstanding! This is my first time renovating an apartment. I interviewed many designers and architects for my project and decided to go with John. I'm so happy that I've been able to work with him on my project! During my selection process, I found that many designers/architects either had very strong views about a design or didn't have many interesting opinions about the design. John strikes the perfect balance between listening to me and my concerns and giving me direction. My project involves a pre-war building and older buildings can involve surprises. There have been a few twists and turns in my renovation, due to the space and co-op board, and John has been very agile and calm during the entire process. He's been able to find quick and reasonable solutions, without compromising style or the design. He's patient and very easy to work with, while also being very talented at his profession. I would definitely recommend him, particularly for anyone who has never renovated a space.

We are working with John to renovate our Prospect Heights Co-Op. John immediately came up with smart and creative solutions to reconfigure our floor plan and renovate our kitchen and bathroom. After finalizing the drawings, he helped connect me and my husband to our contractor, giving us advice on the selection. He has so far seamlessly guided us through the process, always willing to address any of our concerns that come along with being first time renovators. Additionally, he's been sensitive to working within our budget. He's a great communicator and a true professional. I am looking forward to continuing to work with John and I highly recommend him!

John was really great to work with! He was able to start right away on the designs for my kitchen/bedroom and was quick to send drawings when I had an urgent issues with my bathroom that wasn't in the original scope of work. He always presented multiple options and would turn around any adjustments quickly after our feedback calls. I haven't had the opportunity to complete the full kitchen remodel yet but I am really excited to get to work with John on the full project!

We worked with John to renovate our West Village co-op apartment. It was a large project and involved a full gut of the kitchen and the existing bathroom, addition of a new bathroom, new hardwood floors, and removal of a drop ceiling to expose structural beams. John was a pleasure to work with. He provided us with a number of design options based on the ideas we communicated and worked with us through all our questions and changes until the plans matched exactly what we had in mind. John was instrumental in getting a home office and library built in our apartment. He had excellent ideas for the layout of the project. He was great with communications and smoothed over the many logistical issues faced when doing a renovation of this kind. John also checked in regularly during the building phase to ensure that everything was on track with our contractor. He is conscientious and cared about making sure we got the result we wanted. We have been so fortunate to work with John over the past two years on a Brownstone renovation project. John has been professional, responsive, and thoughtful in all of our interactions. John guided us through a yearlong, very involved renovation of our Park Slope Brownstone, which included redoing the roof (including 30k asbestos abatement) and gutting the top floor along with all bathrooms while maintaining historic details such as fireplaces, stained glass windows and trim on the parlor floor. He found a way to add a 2nd full bathroom on the top floor without sacrificing bedroom space - all in a 17.5 foot lot… He also helped us design a spiral staircase to access the roof. He was really good at working with our contractors and helped us make the right choices - and there were many along the way, because neither our GC not ourselves had ever renovated a brownstone before and this was an ambitious project that included converting heat and hot water from gas to heat pumps, adding solar panels, ERV and replacing all the windows with triple pane ones sourced from Germany.

John was a pleasure to work with. He had great vision and creativity, provided valuable advice, and was very accommodating. I had a lot of questions and John patiently answered all of them. He was very responsive - he would answer questions quickly via email or text and always answered the phone when I called. His approach was professional and thorough, particularly in regards to timeline, potential obstacles, and cost - there we never any major surprises. I would highly recommend him and hope to have the opportunity to work with him again.

I had a great experience working with John. He transformed my 2 bed 2 bath co-op into a much more functional and well designed space. He redesigned the entry way to add more storage, added closet space, redesigned the bathrooms, added built in book cases and a kitchen peninsula. My husband and I are absolutely thrilled with the work performed by John Patrick. He went above and beyond to ensure that our vision and goals were captured in the final design. We know that when we finally move into our renovated home, we will enjoy it that much more because we worked with John. We bought a1930s colonial - our first home - and while we knew that something needed to be done to it, we couldn't figure out exactly what. John Patrick is a highly trained and skilled designer, who helped us realize ideas about our space that we didn't see before. Not only did he come up with beautiful and practical solutions to the problems we saw in the home, he willingly worked within the existing constraints of the space, i.e., the location of plumbing, load-bearing walls, etc. We held frequent check-points during our design phase. During each one, John Patrick was thoughtful and professional. We never felt embarrassed or uncomfortable bringing our ideas to the table. He was always very tactful in explaining which ideas made sense and which could be reconsidered in order to maximize space and functionality. We wanted to work with an architect who would share his professional expertise, and not simply sketch whatever we asked him to. John is definitely that architect. And yet, when there were personal elements that my husband and I were unwilling to bend on - no matter how impractical - John found a way to make them work. After each check-point, John created great drawings that helped us visualize the space. These were invaluable for two business professionals trying to make design choices with no design experience. Once our designs were final, John even produced renderings that helped us select fixtures and furniture to fit in our space. These renderings alone have received glowing compliments from all our friends and colleagues. The renderings were also very impressive to our contractor, who is overseeing the construction of our home, as were the construction documents that John produced. The construction documents helped us during the bid phase, when we were trying to select a contractor, and have served as the “source of truth” during the construction phase.
