About Us

John Randolph is a multi-faceted San Francisco-based Environmental Designer working at the confluence of Architecture, Furniture, Exhibition Design and Site-specific Contemporary Arts. In 1984 he co-founded Interim Office Of Architecture (IOOA), best known for its provocative site-specific works, which include 'The Latrine Project' at Headlands Center for the Art and the "Gnomon," commissioned by San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art. In 1998 he launched and currently heads Randolph Designs (RD) - his independent studio. He is also a founding member of Unified Studios for Design and Architecture (USDA), winner of the "Best Body Of Work" Award presented by New York's International Contemporary Furniture Fair in 1999. RD, USDA and IOOA's bodies of Work have been exhibited and featured prominently in Design and Art-related books and periodicals internationally. Since 1983 Randolph has methodically produced a diverse oeuvre of architectural commissions, public exhibitions, conceptual environments, and furnishings for Clients and international Artists such as DJ Shadow, Tom Bonauro, Catherine Wagner and Lewis Baltz. Other notable culinary environments include, Eos Restaurant/Wine Bar, Gordon Biersch Brewery/Restaurant and an exhibition for COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts and the Beer Pavilion for Slow Food Nation in San Francisco, California. His furniture and conceptual Work resides with private collectors and in permanent collections, including San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's, Architecture and Design Collection. He currently teaches at California College of the Arts (CCA).
