Sweetheart Carpentry & Design Sweetheart Carpentry combines old school craftsmanship, an appreciation for historical details, and a thrifty knack for incorporating salvaged materials. Sweetheart specializes in custom built-ins, furniture, and hand-built cabinetry as well as additions, kitchens, and bathrooms. We are also ready to get creative, for example, transforming an under-used garage into a comfortable home office with a loft for guests, tunneling through an eave to create a skylight for a dark bathroom, or creating a bump-out breakfast nook. We work with modern or historical aesthetics, and can combine design elements to create a look that is fresh but integrated into older, traditional Portland homes. Through the character and warmth of old wood, our attentiveness to detail (such as painstakingly matching finishes, molding, and other elements with the existing rooms), and twenty years of experience in design and decorative arts, our remodels look meant-to-be. We are committed to sustainable building practices, including using reclaimed materials and fixtures, minimizing and recycling waste, using the least harmful products, increasing energy efficiency, and mindfulness of environmental and household toxins. We enjoy involving our clients in the design process to make spaces that are highly functional and tailored to their particular needs, whether that’s custom wooden lockers for each family member with compartments for shoes and bike helmets, shelving that fits the items you store, a children’s play nook under the stairs, or a kid-height pull-out counter in the kitchen.
