“I originally contacted Lance Shevchuk at Forefront Audio regarding a used turntable he had listed for sale. Unfortunately for me, the table had already been sold. Over the next few weeks we corresponded frequently via email and telephone. He ALWAYS responded promptly via email, and was more than willing to spend time with me on the phone, answering questions and sharing opinions and experiences in a very friendly, knowledgeable, and decidely low-pressure manner. VERY much appreciated. I ended up buying a new VPI turntable from him at an excellent price, and he spent a considerable amount of time setting up the 'table and cartridge properly with the excellent tools at his disposal. Not only does he work hard FOR his customers, but he is also willing to work WITH his customers, helping me to inspect some other "classic" cartridges I had brought with me and explaining every step of the alignment process. Lance is one of the rare dealers who is knowledgeable and experienced, but who is also willing to say "I don't know" when he doesn't. Instead of making up an answer or pretending to be an expert on everything, he always followed up by making contacts and researching the answers and getting back to me when he was unsure of the answer personally. GREAT, honest service. There's a lot of "snake-oil" in the audio industry in my opinion, not to mention very high pressure salespeople. While Lance does stock an assortment of very high end power cables and interconnects and was willing to discuss their properties and his experiences with them, he never even SLIGHTLY pushed any additional sales and didn't denigrate my desire to continue building my own cables. Again, most "audio salons" would have been aghast that I wasn't willing to pair my new VPI turntable with "value-matched" commercial cables. Not Lance. Kudos and, again, VERY much appreciated. I have absolutely nothing negative to say regarding my entire experience with Lance and Forefront Audio. At this point, I guess the only appropriate finish to this review is to use the too-oft-used phrase found at the end of most reviews found in your favorite high-end audio publications... "Highly Recommended."”
