It was installed when the house was built (by another plumbing contractor) but had recently become an issue as it was suffering from delayed ignition/backfiring, which caused a loud popping sound as too much natural gas was building up in the ignition chamber because the unit was taking 3-5 attempts before firing up. A Kliemann senior service tech made several trips to my house - conversing with the local Noritz distributor and customer/contractor tech support on possible causes & remedies. Kliemann's Service Manager got the problem resolved on my behalf, compelling Noritz to agree the unit was faulty and that they would cover a new unit (including installation charges) under a warranty claim.
