Pac Solar Corporation
Solar Energy Contractors in San Francisco, CA
"Eric and Pac Solar are great - from initial discussions, to the bid and contracting process, to installation, permitting and establishing our ability to monitor the performance of the system ourselves. Explanations were clear and thorough; facts were well documented; communication was crisp. The system, at least initially, is performing as promised. I recommend Eric and Pac Solar without reservation."

Earth-Electric
Solar Energy Contractors in San Francisco, CA
"Let me start out by what you won't be getting from Earth Electric. No hard-sell. Their sales person, Elvis, really knew his stuff and arrived well prepared. More important, once he realized my level of knowledge he was perfectly happy to skip over the things I already knew and focus on answering my questions. Unlike some I spoke to, he himself was a former solar installer, so he spoke from experience, not from a script. No glossy brochures. I know, it's traditional for solar companies to have glossy brochures full of pretty charts and smiling families in front of their solar home. Elvis had manufacturers spec sheets and a laptop on which he showed me web pages. If you really crave expensive glossy brochures, you'll need to look elsewhere. High prices. I'd heard from others that Earth-Electric was competitive, and so they were in my case, substantially less expensive than my other top candidate. I guess they saved money by not printing glossy brochures. Subcontractors. Most solar companies hire subcontractors. Matthew (the owner) did the site survey himself and was there during the first part of the install and the inspection (more on that later). The entire team works for Earth-Electric, and they were great. What do you get with Earth Electric? Let me give it to you in a nutshell: The installation, scheduled for 3 days, took only 2. From signed contract to permission to operate from PG&E took less than a month! Seriously - I signed the contract on 10/24 and permission to operate arrived on 11/23. A lot of the credit goes to Sheryl, who doesn't waste any time getting the paperwork done (especially with regards to permits and PG&E - I didn't have to do a thing beyond authorizing Earth-Electric to handle the paperwork). I originally choose Earth Electric because I like supporting local businesses and Matthew (the owner) teaches Solar Installation at a local community college. I figure anyone who can teach installation probably know something about doing it. How right I was did not become obvious until the city inspection. We got the head electrical inspector for the city who was also doing a training that day. So it was a serious inspection. Soon after beginning it turned into an odd game of jeopardy. Matthew would whisper an answer in my ear a few seconds before the inspector would ask the question. It became quickly obvious that he and the inspector both knew their subject - especially towards the end when they started geeking out about changes to the electrical code and how that would be impacting future installations. Towards the end the inspector pulled me aside and had a few choice words about some of the other contractors he had to deal with - it's pretty clear he was having a good time and had a great deal of respect for Matthew. Needless to say, the install passed easily. When you buy solar, you're buying both equipment and the services of an installer, with the latter I think being the scarier and more important choice. Be sure you talk to Earth-Electric before you make your final decision. You won't regret it."

Simply Solar
Solar Energy Contractors in San Francisco, CA
"They were honest and not pushy when selling me my solar. Then they were quick and took care of everything between the sale and installation so that I didn't have to worry. The installation went great, and then between the panel outside and the app, I can always see how much energy and money I'm saving! I'd recommend them to anyone for their honesty and professionalism."

GreenTech Developers
Solar Energy Contractors in San Francisco, CA
"I got a quote from 5 solar companies before making a decision. GreenTech Developers was the one that seemed to be the most interested in doing the job. They were super fast with scheduling an estimate, answering all the questions and providing the proof of license, insurance and workers comp. They also helped me with my roofing project . The project manager did an amazing job working with my tenants and providing with drone pictures of each project phase; from the beginning to completed the work. The project manager always kept me updated on any changes to the schedule."

The Solar Bros
Solar Energy Contractors in San Francisco, CA
"The Solar Bros are the best company! I found them online through the BBB and they seemed to have a great rating. I had gotten my fair share of quotes for Solar but figured I would give it one last chance. I called them last month. They were able to set an appointment within 2 days, which was very quick! Darin showed up on time and had a packet with all our savings, panel layout, and everything I needed to feel comfortable about making a decision. They work with a bunch of programs to get solar. Being retired with no income and not paying taxes, Darin showed me a program that didn't require any credit, requirement, income verification, or down payment. I can't claim the tax credit because I am retired but I still ended up saving 40% a month on my bill. The install was fast and the best part is I don't have any bill with PG&E!!!! If you are looking for solar go with THE SOLAR BROS!"

What types of residential solar power systems do solar energy contractors design and install?

Solar power systems are part of the growing energy efficiency trend. You may be wondering, what is solar energy, exactly? Solar energy is energy that comes from the sun, and is then converted into electricity and/or utilized for heating air or water.

The most common types of alternative energy systems for the home are solar electric, solar water heating and wind power systems. Solar professionals can help with everything from installing solar skylights to implementing complete solar energy systems.

Let’s say you want a solar electric system for your home. An off-grid system basically consists of solar panels and battery banks. These battery banks store the sun’s energy so you can use electricity at night or on a cloudy day. This system is designed to keep household electricity running for about two or three cloudy days; longer cloudy periods require a backup generator. To install an off-grid system, you’ll want to hire a certified California solar energy contractor. You can find more solar energy contractors in Oakland, Richmond, Berkeley, Daly City and San Mateo.

Along with off-grid solar, wind and hybrid energy systems that include batteries and backup generators, there are also grid-tied solar and wind operations. Grid-tied systems are attached to your San Francisco, CA utility company so if you produce more energy than you use, your meter goes down and you build up energy credits.

Installing solar skylights can save electricity. Sun tunnel skylights are tubular daylight devices that capture sunlight through domes on your roof. Attached to these domes are highly reflective tunnels that draw natural light down into closets, hallways and stairways.

  • Are you able to repair an older system?
