Could be Cleistocactus winteri.

Or the very similar C. samaipatanus. The flowers on C. sam. have the great border on the flowers, with purple stamens.

I believe it is Cleistocactus winteri. I have looked at several images and that is the conclusion I have come to. However, is Cleistocactus winteri good as a grafting stock?

Stealing would be if I took the whole cactus and ran. I took a piece off of it that was already falling off to begin with. Big difference there.

If you think there's a difference, I wouldn't want you visiting my plants.

Lots of nurseries will make new starts from pieces that fall off plants. I ask. No one has ever said no in my experience.

It's the ethical thing to do.
