Those "yin yangs" are fun to find, but not really unusual, especially with Gold Standard. Most likely the plant will settle down and not do that next year, but you never know. Take notes to remind yourself to look again.

The green eyes will take over just about any plant, so separate them if you can get to the eyes, or at least cut off the leaves at the crown.

Hostas can be such a tease. Like Babka said keep a photographic log. I have a couple of hostas that keep teasing me but never put out anything stable. The anticipation can be very exciting. Hope it does something wonderful for you.
