You might tell her to try something like Altissimo, a beautiful, single (5 petals) red rose, or maybe Climbing Pinkie, which is a little larger and should also be okay in your climate. Pinkie has clusters of small pink fully-petaled flowers and is probably the more disease-resistant of the two.

But, be aware, no rose is going to be disease-resistant or flower well with less than 5 or 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.

I was looking for a small climber that had some shade tolerance and came across "Climbing Opal Brunner" it is said to have fragrance and an old fashioned look to it. Ashdown may carry it.
