I don't think it is a bit frivolous.
This reply is just from my own personal experience. I grew up during the 40s and 50s and found that a lot of the older homes had the finger pulls. I can't remember how many times that I hurt my fingers trying to open a drawer. If your hands are slippery, they have a tendency to slip as you open the drawers. Ripped a nail down to the quick once. Mercy, that hurt.

As for me, I would not have them. Sure look pretty,though.

Don't base your decision on my experience. Others probably love them. They must because they sure seem to be popular.

Personally I don't have a problem. I think it all depends on how you use your hands. As a manicurist I have those who never break a nail and those that always have at least one broken. Just my opinion.

I have acrylics, and I never hurt a nail on my bin pulls. I lose them moving books, putting sheets on the beds, and other silly stuff like that.
