Building a home .. need some advice with color selection

Hi.. I am new to this forum. My request was originally posted in the home building forum, but was told I would have better luck if I reposted in the home decorating forum. Thank you in advance for your help!

So, here it is.. We are building a home for the first time and can't make up our minds on the exterior door color of our home, counter top color for our kitchen and the color of the cabinets in the secondary bathroom.

We have chosen to do sandstone colored vinyl with black shutters a black door and a black roof. We really like this look and have seen it around town. However, a friend of mine suggested going with a winestone colored door to break up the colors on the front of the home. According to her, winestone is such a subtle color that it wouldn't pop like a red door (which we don't want and have had before). Somewhat intrigued by her suggestion, but we haven't seen many homes with that combination. Thoughts?

As for the countertop for our kitchen.. We have chosen to go with a Maple Cognac color. My DH is leaving it up to me to choose the color granite for the counter top, but I am torn between a Giallo Veneziano and Tropical Brown. I like how the Giallo Veneziano brightens up the room, but I also like how Tropical Brown warms it up. We have stainless steel appliances and nickel faucets. The flooring will be hardwoods (gunstock). The kitchen will have an island in the middle so there will be a lot of granite to view. Kitchen opens up and flows right into the family room where I will have dark leather brown couches and decorate with hues of green, yellow, brown, beige and hints of white. So, which color granite top would you go with/best suit the room??

Lastly, is the color of the cabinets in the secondary bathroom which is located on the second floor hallway. We selected Cherry Spice cabinets. But here's the question.. Do you think we should change the color of the cabinets to the color selected for the Master bath to have consistency through the bathrooms on the second floor? We chose Cherry Bordeaux for the Master bath. The only reason we went with the lighter shade cabinets is because we wanted the Master bath to stand out.. But now not so sure of our decision..

(Oh, as a side note: the plumbing fixtures will be nickel through out the house as well as light fixtures, knobs and hinges).

I would try a sample of the color your friend suggested and see if you like it, personally I like the sounds of it better than a black so which is so ubiquitous.
Secondly I would go with the tropical brown and thirdly I have no problem with two different woods for two different bathrooms, it shows personality. Matchy matchy is boring. It all sounds wonderful. You really can't make a wrong decision, it's purely personal.

I'm really not sure what winestone is? Is it a plum/burgundy color? If so, I think that would look good. I like it when the door is a different color from the from the trim/shutters.

Do you have any pictures of the Maple Cognac cabinets, maybe a picture from the manufacturer's website? I like Giallo Veneziano more than Tropical Brown, but I'd need to see the cabinets to decide which looks better with it.

Personally I feel tropical brown is a but busy for my tastes buy I'd need to see the other granite and both against your particular cabinets to help you. I'm not a fan of small granite patterns and prefer larger flow. But that's just me.

You do not need to match bathroom cabinetry. Go with what you like. Most people will not be goof between your master bath and the other one anyway. And if they do, it still doesn't matter if they're different and adds more character to have different cabinetry in each.

I like the idea of a deeper colored front door. We're thinking of doing that for our upcoming build also. It's slightly different than black but not as bright as red. We were thinking of other deep shades also. So I say go for it.

I also am voting for the winestone door and when you say you haven't seen many homes with that combo, that is all the better ;)

I like the tropical brown better, but personally, prefer granite with movement.

I would not want every bathroom to have the same cabinets. It would be boring and way too matchy matchy. I don't like a house to look like it was all decorated on the same day.

Thanks everyone for your opinion/advice and especially the vote of confidence with choices I have made on the cabinet color..

So, we have decided to go with the winestone door and the tropical brown counter top.

As for the cabinets we are going to do the different colors.
