Haven't ordered from them for years... but I have to say, that catalog makes a really nice coffee table book.

Just got the SSE catalog in the mail this week too.

I just got their catalog as well. I don't think I will be buying from them though this year. We've tried them 3 years in a row now comparing to other seed companies and every. single. time. we use their seed is has an issue of sorts. My main issue has been germination rates, as a lot of their seeds won't germinate at all! However, seeds of the same sort started in the same way germinate just fine and grow as healthy as you could ask of them. Many people have good luck with them and seem to like them though. I'm hoping to try Southern Seed Exposure and Pine Tree Seeds this year on top of seeds I get at a local feed store. I always get excited when the catalogs start rolling out.

The holidays are great, but one of my favorite parts about them is the catalogs lol

The Atomic grape tomatoes don't look very appealing to me at all. I've never ordered from them but somehow got on their catalog mailing list after placing an order with Drip Works for Agribon. I've heard far too many reports like Jacob's of very poor germination rates from Baker Creek seeds. I'll stick with Johnny's and a few others that I've had good luck with.

I had to look up the Atomic grape tomatoes. Those are cool looking IMO lol but if germination is an issue with Baker Creek seeds then I probably shouldn't try.

Germination rates have been fine for me with Baker Creek seeds. However, I have had a few off types show up in batches of their seed...although I have had the same with other companies, too. I like BCs wide selection of seeds...lots of unusual varieties. However, I also like the "sorting" though multiple varieties that happens before varieties make it into Johnnys and High Mowing Organic Seeds catalogs. For strange or unusual, BC is great, for a sure crop with a tested variety I'll go with Johnnys or HMOS.

BC's catalog is different than others and fun to look at. The photos are not "specimen" shots, but more artistic. They may not always showcase what the traits of the particular variety really are....but they are always eye catching.

LoneJack, I thought the Atomic Grape tomatoes mostly looked unusual, not appealing. I was surprised to see them on the cover. And I'm someone who has grown several Brad Gates/Wild Boar Farms tomatoes. If someone gives me a few AG seeds I might grow them, though. The garden gets some "just for fun" varieties each season and some friends delight in getting seed to me that might make it in for the year.

Naturegirl - I do like perusing the Baker Creek catalog on a cold winter's morning. I guess I'm not much into trying unproven varieties which is why I stick mostly with Johnny's seeds, AAS winners, and grow mostly hybrids. That being said, I will be doing a little 'growing outside the box' this year with several new to me tomato seeds I received in a trade.

I had bought Bonney's Best tomato seeds from them. They grew well and tasted great. When the seeds were about 5 years old, I wanted to start some more. Since they were so old, I threw all of them in the tray to start (about 25 to 30 seeds). They all came up!

I also go it, and I'm definitely excited. They have awesome stuff! I'm planning to get several tomato, cucumber and squash seeds.

They moved a store into a town a few miles away and I LOVE going there! The very knowelegable staff is very helpfull, and even gave me about $40 worth of seeds for a school garden! (Gave me a basket and said to pick what I wanted, just a thank you note required!) No problem with germination at all!

I've ordered from Baker Creek for years, and I do have occasional issues with germination rates. I attribute that to the fact that some of the more unusual "discoveries" they offer don't have established histories, and the fact that heirlooms can sometimes be cranky ;-) However, the catalog will often note when certain varieties have low germination rates, which I appreciate.

So true Stacy. I rather know that they are organic seeds than god knows what. Lately I have been hearing about quality issue around burpees.

YES I love the catalog. I consider it the best catalog out there.

I have had good luck with their seeds.

Beautiful catalog and fun reading. We've had decent success with BC seeds. Yes, there are some we like better but BC is certainly better than most IMO. We, like bcskye, ordered Atomic Grape seeds last year (directly from Brad Gates) but they didn't make the final grow-out list. They're still in the list for 2018.
