How to protect marble from stuff on top of it?

We have new marble countertops and I've read all the do's and don'ts for them. And to be clear I'm happy to have them develop natural patina over the years of use. But that said I've noticed some annoying things with stuff resting on them. I have a wood tray we use as a coffee station, the wood stain started to leech from the bottom and leave a stain. Then one day I was using my food sealer, I slid it on the counter and the little rubber feet left a mark. Annoying.
The point of the coffee tray was to prevent coffee stains ! What could I attach to the bottom to prevent this? Or is there something I could seal the wood with that would do the trick?
