Mild Winter would be nice. Zone 8b, so it could be okay. They're more tender than oranges, but there's a Moro planted nine feet away.

We're supposed to have freezing rain on Thanksgiving, so maybe it'll be nice and mild for you on the East Coast.

Greenman, best of luck your planting job looks terrific and I almost never say that so its a real compliment :). My varigated pink was the only citrus tree I have had die on our new property in 4 years and I do trials. Just a heads up I think it needed more water than the others. It did make some lemons that tasted alright but the two I planted never really killed it. I think you need to get it going fast for it to do insanely well but probably is better suited to Cali than the east coast but thats just a theory.

Did my best to properly dig the hole, back fill to the proper height/grade, orient the tree, and then fill and mulch. I have it loosely attached to a rebar stake, and I will be putting some additional stakes for deer protection around it.

The weather has turned very cold, so we might lose the tree...but, if so, no great loss.

This statement reminded me of a story of a fox jumping high to grab lemons from the lemon tree. In all attempts the fox fails and walks off and accuses the lemons of likely being sour.

It is amazing how written statements can remind us of stories told 5 and a half decades ago.
