I just ordered Milky Spore Powder today. The grubs (Japanese beetle larva) eat it, die and spread the milky spore to other areas of the lawn. Within a year or so, there should be enough milky spore to kill grubs for 10-20 years. It is pricey to start with, but I look forward to the long term results. It will only kill grubs, no other insects and is harmless to people & animals as well.

Good Luck, once you rid your yard of grubs, you should see less Japanese beetles and possibly less mole tunnels if you have any because their food source will be gone.

Assuming you are still in MASS, it is faaaaar too early to see Japanese beetle grubs in a lawn. First you have to have the attack of the porch lights by swarms of beetles. That usually happens later this month. If you don't have swarms, then you're likely good to go for the rest of the year. If you do have swarms, THEN, wait until early July to look for grubs. Dig up a 1 square foot section of turf. Count the number of grubs you find. If you have fewer than about a dozen, cover it all up and again, you're good to go. The lawn can handle small numbers of grubs. But if you start to dig and already see uncountable masses of grubs, then you have a problem and need to treat the lawn.

I'm in GA, north of Atlanta and we have grubs now. I was transplanting some perennials from a container and there were dozens in the container. So disgusting.

reneinga, you have grubs in a container and not the lawn? The OP is Massachusetts and is dealing with a lawn issue.

Yes, I do have them in a container. I'm not going to dig my yard up, if a potted plant has them, more than likely, so does the yard.

This week, I treated the yard with milky spore powder. According to the box, one japanese beetle can lay up to 50 eggs. We typically have beetles swarming our plants in June or July.

I've never seen them swarm lights. I have seen June bugs swarm lights though.

No harm in treating a yard with milky spore, as it only kills japanese beetle grubs.
