White and wood seems to be having a moment. The combination has been a hit in bedrooms, living rooms and of course kitchens. There’s no set formula for the right balance of white and wood — it’s a matter of preference. These three kitchens show how wood can make a subtle or a big impact when paired with white cabinets.
2. Farmhouse
Designer: Karen Moyer of KM Design
Location: Snowmass, Colorado
Size: 165 square feet (15.3 square meters); 11 by 15 feet (3.3 by 4.5 meters)
The cabinets: The inset cabinets are hardwood painted in Benjamin Moore’s Stoneware paint with a satin finish. The island cabinets are alder in a champagne stain with a java glaze.
The wood: Existing tongue-and-groove ceiling painted green. Timber beams. Timber nosing on range hood. Stained wood finish on island. Light wood floors.
Other special features: Prana White honed quartzite countertop on the island. Jet Mist honed granite countertops on the perimeter.
General contractor: Jan Stenstadvold of Rutgers Construction; cabinetry: Plato Woodwork
