Idea of the Week: Salvage Style Steps Up
Can You Guess What's Livening Up This Staircase?
A renovation, in essence, is typically a casting off of the old for a new look. But all that old stuff adds up, and at the end you're often left with a heavy-duty trash bin filled to brimming with garbage. Rather than let it all go to the nearest landfill, clever contractor CapeRace Cultural Adventures in Newfoundland decided to incorporate some of the old into the new design.
See these stairs? You'll never guess what they were originally...
The renovation of this home called for the removal of about a hundred year’s worth of old flooring. Rather than get rid of all of that linoleum (and who would really blame them if they did?), the contractors used the kaleidoscope of patterns to dress up this staircase. Not only does it look surprisingly great, it preserves a little bit of the home’s history.
