Gable House

Contemporary Kitchen, Berkshire

The clients wanted to modernise their home to create a large, contemporary, open-plan and light-filled kitchen/dining/living area along with a utility room, playroom, (doubling as a guest bedroom) and separate lounge. Through the clever reconfiguration of the existing ground floor area and replacement of the existing conservatory with a vaulted-roof rear extension, we have created a striking new hub to their home. The geometry of the vaulted roof intersecting with the existing roof along with the new rooflights and large sliding doors creates a ‘wow’ space that connects seamlessly to the patio for alfresco dining or enjoying an evening drink. The wonderfully bright open-plan kitchen is delineated by a dark blue island, which houses a Bora extractor and hob and has a breakfast bar. On the side wall, modern cabinetry cleverly conceals additional appliances and a coffee station. Bold lighting is incorporated above the island and within the vaulted roof space. The lounge is transformed as a dark blue cocoon for movie and family games nights with a sumptuous corner sofa whilst the utility room is wonderfully functional for family life.
