All of the cabinets in this kitchen, that has been featured on Houzz, were originally the same dark wood stain as the island. The client hired us to lighten things up and we did just that by changing the perimeter cabinets to a soft white and installing a highly reflective custom moorish tile glass backsplash in the same colour. We kept the island as it was and referenced the darker colour in the bronze pendant lights and perimeter hardware. Interior Design by Lori Steeves of Simply Home Decorating Inc. Nestled into the quiet middle of a block in the historic center of the beautiful colonial town of San Miguel de Allende, this 4,500 square foot courtyard home is accessed through lush gardens with trickling fountains and a luminous lap-pool. The living, dining, kitchen, library and master suite on the ground floor open onto a series of plant filled patios that flood each space with light that changes throughout the day. Elliptical domes and hewn wooden beams sculpt the ceilings, reflecting soft colors onto curving walls. A long, narrow stairway wrapped with windows and skylights is a serene connection to the second floor ''Moroccan' inspired suite with domed fireplace and hand-sculpted tub, and "French Country" inspired suite with a sunny balcony and oval shower. A curving bridge flies through the high living room with sparkling glass railings and overlooks onto sensuously shaped built in sofas. At the third floor windows wrap every space with balconies, light and views, linking indoors to the distant mountains, the morning sun and the bubbling jacuzzi. At the rooftop terrace domes and chimneys join the cozy seating for intimate gatherings.

For the past few years the trend in kitchen decor has been to completely remodel your entire kitchen in stainless steel. Stainless steel counter-tops and appliances, back-splashes even stainless steel cookware and utensils.
Some kitchens are so loaded with stainless that you feel like you're walking into one of those big walk-in coolers like you see in a restaurant or a sterile operating room. They're cold and so... uninviting. Who wants to spend time in a room that reminds you of the frozen isle of a supermarket?
One of the basic concepts of interior design focuses on using natural elements in your home. Things like woods and green plants and soft fabrics make your home feel more warm and welcoming.
In most homes the kitchen is where everyone congregates whether it's for family mealtimes or entertaining. Get rid of that stainless steel and add some warmth to your kitchen with one of our antique stone kitchen hoods that were at first especially deep antique fireplaces retrofitted to accommodate a fully functional metal vent inside of them.

Eidolon House is the Winner of the Sunday Times British Homes Awards 2014 for Best One-off House.
It is believed to be the first mirror-clad house in London.
Although located adjacent to the historic Highgate Cemetery and in a Conservation Area, Swains Lane has a tradition of innovative contemporary architecture. No. 85 (next door) by Eldridge Smerin Architects won a RIBA award in 2009 and John Winter’s 1969 Corten steel clad house at No. 81 is one of the few Modern houses to be Grade II* listed.
Eidolon House builds on the tradition of glass and steel Modernist housing started by Winter. Here in contrast to Winter’s use of rusted Corten steel, the renovated house is clad in mirror polished stainless steel reflecting the trees opposite – highlighting the changing of the seasons. Inside the house further celebrates its fantastic setting with large windows and an open-plan top floor overlooking the overgrown cemetery beyond.
The project name refers to the reflective cladding and cemetery context – Eidolon means phantom, apparition, double image and idealised.

Located within the urban core of Portland, Oregon, this 7th floor 2500 SF penthouse sits atop the historic Crane Building, a brick warehouse built in 1909. It has established views of the city, bridges and west hills but its historic status restricted any changes to the exterior. Working within the constraints of the existing building shell, GS Architects aimed to create an “urban refuge”, that provided a personal retreat for the husband and wife owners with the option to entertain on occasion.
JRP Design & Remodel
To spotlight the owners’ worldly decor, this remodel quietly complements the furniture and art textures, colors, and patterns abundant in this beautiful home.
The original master bath had a 1980s style in dire need of change. By stealing an adjacent bedroom for the new master closet, the bath transformed into an artistic and spacious space. The jet-black herringbone-patterned floor adds visual interest to highlight the freestanding soaking tub. Schoolhouse-style shell white sconces flank the matching his and her vanities. The new generous master shower features polished nickel dual shower heads and hand shower and is wrapped in Bedrosian Porcelain Manifica Series in Luxe White with satin finish.
The kitchen started as dated and isolated. To add flow and more natural light, the wall between the bar and the kitchen was removed, along with exterior windows, which allowed for a complete redesign. The result is a streamlined, open, and light-filled kitchen that flows into the adjacent family room and bar areas – perfect for quiet family nights or entertaining with friends.
Crystal Cabinets in white matte sheen with satin brass pulls, and the white matte ceramic backsplash provides a sleek and neutral palette. The newly-designed island features Calacutta Royal Leather Finish quartz and Kohler sink and fixtures. The island cabinets are finished in black sheen to anchor this seating and prep area, featuring round brass pendant fixtures. One end of the island provides the perfect prep and cut area with maple finish butcher block to match the stove hood accents. French White Oak flooring warms the entire area. The Miele 48” Dual Fuel Range with Griddle offers the perfect features for simple or gourmet meal preparation. A new dining nook makes for picture-perfect seating for night or day dining.
Welcome to artful living in Worldly Heritage style.

Two simple renovations of this 1920’s bungalow transformed the function and flow of two of the most important spaces in a house; the bathroom and the kitchen. The owner wanted to update the spaces to reflect a modern lifestyle while respecting the house. By changing the flow and function of the kitchen it now works for entertaining and multiple chefs while the clean spare finishes keep it fresh and clearly modern. The bathroom was made even smaller than its original form in the renovation of the kitchen so every inch of space had to be used. By unifying the finish on the surfaces, using small modern fixtures, and with a simple glass partition the bathroom is minimalist, elegant, and timeless.
