Sycamore Kitchens & More
"Please help us! No one knows how to make our kitchen functional with all these angles!" Well the designers at Sycamore Kitchens & More took this as a personal challenge and the clients couldn't be happier with their new kitchen. Plenty of storage was created with the new design featuring 48" tall wall cabinets allowing for an extra shelf throughout the kitchen, angled cabinets in the corners instead of fillers, and a separate wine/ coffee bar area alleviating countertop clutter. Functional elements in the base cabinets such as roll out trays, spice racks, tray cabinets and deep pot and pan drawers replaced plain shelves. Lastly, the countertop was relocated from the island creating a more comfortable island for everyday use and entertaining. Architectural elements were incorporated to soften the sharp angles of the space including a majestic sweeping chimney hood, arched toe kicks, and custom stacked crown molding to the ceiling. "We couldn't be happier- you checked all the boxes and we absolutely LOVE our new kitchen"

Dining Room - Faux Walls, Ceilings, Crown Moldings
Pacific Palisades, CA
Interior Designer, Jonathan Hopp of Jonathan Hopp Interior Design. www.JonathanHopp.com
This room, as a part of an entire house project was designed by Jonathan Hopp. We resurfaced the entire house interior walls because I didn't want to do wall glazing over orange peel texture. No way to get around it. Orange peel is about as stylish and ill-fitting in a home as polyester pants are on any person.
We textured, crackled the walls and glazed over the crackle in tones similar to Dunn Edward's Graham Cracker. All of the moldings were glazed dark. In special areas such as this, we did extra-special bronze leafed treatments for a bit of elegant bling. The ceiling, of course had to go dark with a multi-layered glazing, metallics to give movement to the depth.
Thank you Jonathan Hopp for bringing us to this fun and trusting client!

PEDINI NY
The inspiration for the Dune began with the simple idea to seamlessly connect the kitchen to the living space. Dune is a unique contemporary kitchen cabinet design without handles. It is defined by asymmetrically curved base units and echoing flowing forms found in nature. Opening is achieved by a groove on the edge of the extra thick 23mm front panel (base units) or by a vertical aluminum profile (tall units). Drawers in the curved units allow Pedini to offer this remarkable Italian kitchen design without compromising the environment, ergonomics or functionality.
Dune contemporary kitchens offer a high component of adaptability and individual variations, which allows room for harmony between the functional aspects of the house. Dune truly adapts to the nature of it’s surrounding.
Soft technology. Pedini makes daily living more practical thanks to the quality of the opening systems of doors and drawers, and with an automated closing mechanism, great storage capacity, and the total personalization of the spaces. Dune aesthetics provide attractive contrasts between wood veneers, steel, and quartz worktops. Modern kitchen designs like Dune are a perfect fit in any home. Dune, like all of Pedini’s contemporary kitchens, was designed with ease of function in mind. Dune is a flexible product for diversified solutions. Among the various possibilities of Dune, the option of the island allows complete access from more sides of the working area. Deep drawers are also a staple of the Dune line.
Dune is available in natural or stained eco friendly walnut as well as matte, high gloss and textured lacquer in any color. Aluminum profiles and plinths are available in white, gray, black or matte silver. Complementary glass fronts available with walnut frame and 6 colors of mirror glass.

Houston Interior Designer Lisha Maxey took this Museum District condo from the dated, mirrored walls of the 1980s to Mid Century Modern with a gallery look featuring the client's art collection.
"The place was covered with glued-down, floor-to-ceiling mirrors," says Lisha Maxey, senior designer for Homescapes of Houston and principal at LGH Design Services in Houston. "When we took them off the walls, the walls came apart. We ended up taking them down to the studs."
The makeover took six months to complete, primarily because of strict condo association rules that only gave the Houston interior designers very limited access to the elevator - through which all materials and team members had to go.
"Monday through Friday, we could only be noisy from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and if we had to do something extra loud, like sawing or drilling, we had to schedule it with the management and they had to communicate that to the condo owners. So it was just a lot of coordination. But a lot of Inner City Loopers live in these kinds of buildings, so we're used to handling that kind of thing."
The client, a child psychiatrist in her 60s, recently moved to Houston from northeast Texas to be with friends. After being widowed three years ago, she decided it was time to let go of the traditionally styled estate that wasn't really her style anyway. An avid diver who has traveled around the world to pursue her passion, she has amassed a large collection of art from her travels. Downsizing to 1,600 feet and wanting to go more contemporary, she wanted the display - and the look - more streamlined.
"She wanted clean lines and muted colors, with the main focus being her artwork," says Maxey. "So we made the space a palette for that."
Enter the white, gallery-grade paint she chose for the walls: "It's halfway between satin and flat," explains Maxey. "It's not glossy and it's not chalky - just very smooth and clean."
Adding to the gallery theme is the satin nickel track lighting with lamps aimed to highlight pieces of art. "This lighting has no wires," notes Maxey. "It's powered by a positive and negative conduit."
The new flooring throughout is a blended-grey porcelain tile that looks like wood planks. "It's gorgeous, natural-looking and combines all the beauty of wood with the durability of tile," says Maxey. "We used it throughout the condo to unify the space."
After Maxey started looking at the client's bright, vibrant, colorful artwork, she felt the palette couldn't stay as muted anymore. Hence the Mid Century Modern orange leather sofas from West Elm and bright green chairs from Joybird, plus the throw pillows in different textures, patterns and shades of gold, orange and green.
The concave lines of the Danish-inspired chairs, she notes, help them look beautiful from all the way around - a key to designing spaces for loft living.
"The table in the living room is very interesting," notes Maxey. "It was handmade for the client in 1974 and has a signature on it from the artist. She was adamant about including the piece, which has all these hand-painted black-and-white art tiles on the top. I took one look at it and said 'It's not really going to go.'"
However, after cutting 6 inches off the bottom and making it look a little distressed, the table ended up being the perfect complement to the sofas.
The dining room table - from Design Within Reach - is a solid piece of mahogany, the chair upholstery a mix of grey velvet and leather and the legs a shiny brass. "The side chairs are leather and the end ones are velvet," says Maxey. "It's a nice textural mix that lends depth and texture."
The galley kitchen, meanwhile, has been lightened and brightened, with new, white contemporary cabinetry, quartz countertops mimicking the look of Carrara marble, stainless steel appliances and a velvet green bench seat for a punch of color.
The two bathrooms have been updated with contemporary white vanities and vessel sinks and the master bath now features a walk-in shower tiled in Dolomite white marble (the floor is Bianco Carrara marble mosaic, done in a herringbone pattern.
In the master bedroom, Homescapes of Houston knocked down a wall between two smaller closets with swing doors to make one large walk-in closet with pocket doors. The closet in the guest bedroom also came out 13 more inches.
The client's artwork throughout personalizes the space and tells the story of a life. There's a huge bowl of shells from the client's diving adventures, framed art from her child psychiatry patients and a 16th century wood carving from a monastery that's been in her family forever.
"Her collection is quite impressive," says Maxey. "There's even a framed piece of autographed songs written by John Lennon." (You can see this black-framed piece of art on the wall in the photo above of two green chairs).
"We're extremely happy with how the project turned out, and so is the client," says Maxey. "No expense was spared for her. It was a labor of love and we were excited to do it."

Woodmaster Kitchens
This kitchen renovation in Bloomfield Hills is full of unique design features that help define the personality of the home. A 5' Galley Workstation and elongated island with a seating area are perfect for entertaining, family gatherings, or day-to-day casual dining. The island cabinetry has a different finish than the perimeter 3/4 height cabinets, and the hutch offers a bar with x-muntins plus extra storage, beverage refrigerator, and dishwasher. The Elica stainless range hood provides both light and filtered ventilation, and the sliding barn door adds a rustic touch to this beautiful craftsman style kitchen design.
Genesis Kitchens & Design
Mid-sized transitional l-shaped light wood floor eat-in kitchen photo in Vancouver with an undermount sink, shaker cabinets, white cabinets, quartz countertops, white backsplash, ceramic backsplash, stainless steel appliances and an island
My House Design/Build/Team
In this white kitchen renovation, we removed the old wooden shaker-style kitchen cabinetry and replaced them with all new white and grey cabinets, and white marble counter tops. Expertly hidden behind some of these cabinets is the family’s new walk-in pantry.
The original space had a small, awkward-shaped kitchen island that was so small it was barely functional or convenient for more than one person to sit at. We gave the homeowners a much larger kitchen island, with a beveled edge, that now has more than enough space for eating, socializing, or doing work. With a large overhang counter top on one side, there is now room for several backless bar stools tucked under the island. You’ll also notice glitters of gold inside the two over-sized lighting fixtures suspended over the island.
We created the homeowners a small wok kitchen just off of their new white kitchen renovation. In the main kitchen, we added a ceramic flat cook top and subtle white exhaust hood with an elegant rose-gold trim. Behind it, a white/grey mosaic back splash acts as a wall accent to provide some dimension to the otherwise solid white space. Surrounding the range hood are two large wall cabinets with clear doors to provide extra storage without adding bulk to the newly opened room.
The adjacent dining room was also updated to include a long, contemporary dining table with comfortable seating for eight (ten if you want to get cozy). We replaced the low-hanging run-of-the-mill chandelier with a higher, more modern style made of gold and glass. Behind it all is a new dark grey accent wall with a paneled design to add dimension and depth to the new brighter room.
Chicagoland Home Products
For this project, we took advantage of the additional space on both sides of the fireplace to design and build two pine wall storage units around it. Our team carefully measured out the exact dimensions for a perfect fit during the installation. The shade of white we used to paint the wall units matches the home’s window treatments for a clean, symmetrical look. In addition, we installed lighting within the top shelves of the storage units, adding to the atmosphere of the room. These are perfect for storing photos or other personal belongings that want to be highlighted and displayed prominently.
With the addition of the custom wall units, this living room has an extra layer of depth and style that is sure to impress when entertaining guests.

This Spanish influenced Modern Farmhouse style Kitchen incorporates a variety of textures and finishes to create a calming and functional space to entertain a houseful of guests. The extra large island is in an historic Sherwin Williams green with banquette seating at the end. It provides ample storage and countertop space to prep food and hang around with family. The surrounding wall cabinets are a shade of white that gives contrast to the walls while maintaining a bright and airy feel to the space. Matte black hardware is used on all of the cabinetry to give a cohesive feel. The countertop is a Cambria quartz with grey veining that adds visual interest and warmth to the kitchen that plays well with the white washed brick backsplash. The brick backsplash gives an authentic feel to the room and is the perfect compliment to the deco tile behind the range. The pendant lighting over the island and wall sconce over the kitchen sink add a personal touch and finish while the use of glass globes keeps them from interfering with the open feel of the space and allows the chandelier over the dining table to be the focal lighting fixture.
Melton Design Build
This accessory dwelling unit perfectly demonstrates a way to expand a home's square footage creatively; in this case, our clients created a guest house including a bedroom, living area, and full bathroom with artsy Boulder flare. Having an ADU that includes a bedroom and living room gives these clients extra space to host guests, rent, or create a flex space such as a home office or art studio.
The most striking feature of this project is how the dwelling appears to be floating, one of the more challenging aspects of the project, which creates a truly modern aesthetic.
This project's most exciting design elements are the pops of color that give this space life and personality. Designers incorporated turquoise hexagon tile throughout the entire bathroom. The seamless way the flooring acts as a base for the whole bathroom, including the shower flooring, is an attractive design choice that makes for a clean and simple aesthetic. Simple, floating cabinets and bathroom vanity are a modern touch that provides plenty of storage and extenuate the bold tile below.
Everything from the bright red door and minimalist design choice gives this space a cozy yet minimalist, Scandinavian aesthetic.

Contemporary German Kitchen in Rustington, West Sussex
Aron has created a subtle grey theme for this Rustington project, with natural surfaces and lovely personal inclusions.
The Brief
This Rustington client required a modernisation of their kitchen space with special inclusions to suit the way they wanted to use their new kitchen.
A breakfast bar island was sought after, as a place to perch and for casual eating, with a gloss finish and soft pastel tones a preferred theme. Whilst undertaking the works flooring and heating improvements were also required.
Design Elements
Designer Aron conjured a simple u-shape layout to make the most of this space, incorporating a breakfast bar as required, with decorative storage featured above.
Gloss furniture in a Satin Grey finish has been utilised, which reflects around the space to make the room feel larger. The furniture is complemented by Silestone Quartz surfaces, which have been chosen in a natural grey Moorland Fog finish.
The client has chosen to incorporate their favoured pastel colour in the form of a glass splashback, which works well with the Satin Grey cabinetry.
Karndean flooring has been installed within the kitchen as well as in most of the downstairs space in this property. A full-height radiator has also been installed to provide plenty of warmth to the kitchen.
Special Inclusions
High-performance Neff appliances were specified to provide long-lasting functions to the kitchen. The client has opted for a single Slide & Hide oven, combination oven and warming drawer to help them with cooking duties.
Elsewhere a Neff hob, integrated extractor hood and refrigerator complete the appliance requirements for this project.
To decorate the space, this client has opted for some nice storage areas. An underlit shelf is a nice feature and space to store decorative items, which looks particularly nice with the undercabinet lighting also opted for.
Quartz work surfaces have been installed on the large window sill, which has been nicely decorated with plants and decorations.
Project Highlight
The highlight of this project was the breakfast bar area.
It provides a place to eat at any time of day or a nice space to catch up with friends and has been enhanced with glass-fronted wall cabinets and integrated lighting.
This area also helps to equip the kitchen with extra built-in storage.
The End Result
The end result is a kitchen that incorporates all the requirements of the client and more!
In a relatively compact space, Aron has designed a complete and functional kitchen, with plenty of special inclusions and decorative features for this Rustington client.

Thompson Remodeling
One of the focal points of the new kitchen design is the new, octagonal island made of slate stained cabinets with a Milan grey quartz countertop. For contrast, the wall cabinets have a chestnut stain with a terra brown quartz countertop.
Our clients did not want to use recessed lighting in their kitchen, so we designed a custom track system and combined it with pendant lighting in other areas. For more formal family meals, we built a custom banquette that the children can also use for doing homework. The homeowner’s favorite part of the kitchen is the floor to ceiling cabinetry that offers loads of storage space.
The children in the family are very active and involved in many activities, but this home was not built to handle their comings and goings and all the “stuff” that goes with it. We removed a closet and used the extra space to create a fantastic mudroom with custom lockers, each with its on bottom drawer on rollers, personal bench, hooks and phone charging station! We also used this area to bring in some of the homeowner’s favorite bright colors.
We remodeled the laundry space to make it more functional for the family. Updates include open shelves to store laundry baskets, a new sink, cabinets with an oregano stain, and a countertop at just the right height for the parents.
The master bath received a luxurious update to create a relaxing space for mom and dad. A large tile shower replaces the old alcove bathtub and a new double vanity features java stained cabinets and quartz countertops.

The Sycamore offers a classic family-friendly plan with flexibility for addressing future homeowners’ personal touches.
The kitchen’s open floor plan provides visibility to the breakfast nook and family room–great for cooking family meals or entertaining guests. A mudroom and half bath are located off the kitchen, near the entrance to the optional two-car garage.
An expansive entry foyer opens to the second-floor landing, a light-filled space providing access to the bedrooms of the home. The master bedroom offers modern amenities such as an elegant en suite bathroom and dual walk-in closets. Three additional bedrooms and a full bath complete the second floor, while an optional bonus room over the garage provides extra entertainment space.
Simply Home Decorating
This penthouse condo in Raven Woods is home to an adventurous, nature-loving couple. With their children grown and starting families of their own, Jeremy and Cynthia (names changed) chose to downsize their livable space and “upsize” in quality and luxury.
The couple hired us to help them achieve several well-defined goals: feeling immersed and connected to nature, having warm and welcoming spaces to host their family and friends, and selecting pieces that would support local makers and artisans. (If you know me, you know that nature, connection, and community are some of my most important values, personally and professionally — the perfect fit!)
Using our comprehensive design process, we spent months designing, procuring, and installing their new, long-time home. The resulting spaces are breathtaking, creating a daily living experience that is full of serenity and bliss.
Welcoming & Bright Home with Forest Views:
Ahhh… can you imagine coming home to a space as bright and soothing as this one? To find inspiration for this home’s interiors, we needed to look no further than out the windows, where mountain views greet us to the north and the ocean beckons from the south.
Paying homage to their locale, we curated a colour palette of subtle blues and grays, warm-toned woods, and natural materials, all set against a crisp, white backdrop. These help us create a seamless visual transition between the interior and exterior. Let’s start our tour in the living area…
A Cozy Living Area with Warmth & Dimension:
In the living area, the fireplace was the starting point for the design, as it determined the size of the space and the scale of our furnishings. To keep this area feeling cozy but not crowded, we selected this soft ottoman to serve as a table surface with a tray or as additional seating when Jeremy and Cynthia host guests. (Multi-purpose items are one of the 5 elements of The Simple Home.)
Additional textures — the sofa, upholstered swivel chairs, pillows, and ceramic wall art reminiscent of sand dollars — offer further depth and dimension in this simple yet layered space. The result is a cozy living room area perfect for a relaxing read on an overcast day or a social evening by the fire.
While daunting at first, this home’s small and open footprint offered a special opportunity for us to design thoughtful “zones”. To create a defined living space, we used an area rug to establish a border and situated the larger seating (the sofa) on the right. Its visual weight serves as a grounding barrier that naturally separates the living and dining areas.
Overhead, the centrally located brass and glass chandelier serves as another focal point, making the entire living area feel like one unit. Last but not least…
Styled with tall decorative lamps, this light oak and rattan console sits just behind the sofa, creating an additional visual barrier between the living and dining areas. We styled it with accessories that complement the overall palette, and it has the added benefit of providing storage right where Jeremy and Cynthia need it, the dining area.
An Art-Infused Dining Area:
The dining area is warm, woodsy, and filled with locally sourced art that Jeremy and Cynthia love. Next to the console is a custom textile piece from Vancouver artist, With Strings Attached, that mimics the scenic, mountain backdrop. The blue hues of the piece work in harmony with the warm wood dining table, cool gray upholstered chairs, and neutral stools at the kitchen bar.
On the other side of the space, is Jeremy’s and Cynthia’s favourite piece, a commissioned work of art by local maker, Katie Napier. Carefully positioned in a central location and framed by two modern sconces, this piece captures the feel of gentle waters on a misty day and evokes calm.
Other curated pieces include this rectangular vessel centrepiece by sculptural artist, Martha Sturdy, bearing a stunning moss arrangement by Soul Roots Moss Art. As this couple can attest, a treasured memento or piece of art can transform your space and your mood, transporting you to a relaxed and peaceful state.
A Bedroom Full of Light & Texture:
This beautiful bedroom is another manifestation of Jeremy and Cynthia’s favourite experiences: hiking the rainforest trails and enjoying the spray of the sea. The blue-and-green branching pattern found in the window treatments and pillows ground the space, while bright turquoise lamps — akin to sea glass — infuse the room with a touch of coastal vibrance.
Similar to the living area, we added comfort through texture and warm tones, incorporating oak end tables, natural woven wall decor above the headboard, knitted ottomans at the foot of the bed, a textured duvet, and an extra plush area rug.
A Loft Inspired by Flora & Fauna:
For the loft space, we moved away from coastal elements and decided to ground the space in the more earthy elements of nature: flora and fauna. We selected an umber-hued sofa complemented by floral decorative pillows and walls adorned with botanical prints by Heather Johnston.
This multi-purpose space serves as a reprieve for our clients to read, practice yoga, and relax. Alternatively, a Frame TV intentionally meant to blend as art allows the space to function as a secondary entertainment space or a place for their granddaughter to play and sleep over.
Praise from Our Clients:
This home’s small footprint pushed us to be more resourceful in our furniture sourcing and more creative in our space planning. The result is a home as livable, beautiful, and intentional as any larger home would be. Most importantly, Jeremy and Cynthia love it!
“Lori listened to our love of nature and designed our condo reflecting that love. It is beautiful, serene, and welcoming. We couldn't be happier.”
