This garden is only a year old! Thanks to quarterly applications of compost tea it is really thriving. Healthy soil makes for healthy plants and a lush look soon after planting. Bright orange kalanchoe 'Flap jacks' and aloe blossoms contrast with the subtle blues and greens from the surrounding foliage of dymondia ground cover and other succulents.

A pretty, organic vegetable garden in the front yard. The 4 raised stone beds separated by mulched paths is called a parterre garden.

The curved walkway is gravel with monolithic stone risers, to allow rain and oxygen to tree roots. Ornamental grasses flank the entry. A simple retaining wall matches the home's exterior wainscoting, and is topped with the same slate as their front porch.

The entire grounds of this Lake Minnetonka home was renovated as part of a major home remodel.
The orientation of the entrance was improved to better align automobile traffic. The new permeable driveway is built of recycled clay bricks placed on gravel. The remainder of the front yard is organized by soft lawn spaces and large Birch trees. The entrance to the home is accentuated by masses of annual flowers that frame the bluestone steps.
On the lake side of the home a secluded, private patio offers refuge from the more publicly viewed backyard.
This project earned Windsor Companies a Grand Honor award and Judge's Choice by the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association.

This front yard is a mixture of colorful drought tolerant plants, edible citrus and flagstone. The local wildlife love being able to eat here and the homeowners love coming out in the morning with a hot cup of coffee. Wow! Curb Appeal! Many clients come to me to express how their front yard landscape lacks curb appeal, color, interest, and is just not welcoming. The first recommendation I make is to add a more inviting and functional walkway to their front door. Most sidewalks are off the driveway and difficult to navigate when cars are parked there. The next is to add colorful, albeit low maintenance, and flowering plant material. My installation crew, Showcase Landscape and Irrigation, https://www.facebook.com/Showcase-Landscape-And-Irrigation-262124380507467/ are unsurpassed at the installation of beautiful flagstone walkways, patios and stone work. Showcase just completed this gorgeous walkway and front yard transformation for my client in Fort Collins. Curb appeal is more than just adding plant material as you can see from my design and finished photo below. Thank you Showcase! Design by Tanya Fisher, Colorado Vista Landscape Design, Inc.

Situated in old Palo Alto, CA, this historic 1905 Craftsman style home now has a stunning landscape to match its custom hand-crafted interior. Our firm had a blank slate with the landscape, and carved out a number of spaces that this young and vibrant family could use for gathering, entertaining, dining, gardening and general relaxation. Mature screen planting, colorful perennials, citrus trees, ornamental grasses, and lots of depth and texture are found throughout the many planting beds. In effort to conserve water, the main open spaces were covered with a foot friendly, decorative gravel. Giving the family a great space for large gatherings, all while saving water.

The renovation of the Woodland Residence centered around two basic ideas. The first was to open the house to light and views of the surrounding woods. The second, due to a limited budget, was to minimize the amount of new footprint while retaining as much of the existing structure as possible.
The existing house was in dire need of updating. It was a warren of small rooms with long hallways connecting them. This resulted in dark spaces that had little relationship to the exterior. Most of the non bearing walls were demolished in order to allow for a more open concept while dividing the house into clearly defined private and public areas. The new plan is organized around a soaring new cathedral space that cuts through the center of the house, containing the living and family room spaces. A new screened porch extends the family room through a large folding door - completely blurring the line between inside and outside. The other public functions (dining and kitchen) are located adjacently. A massive, off center pivoting door opens to a dramatic entry with views through a new open staircase to the trees beyond. The new floor plan allows for views to the exterior from virtually any position in the house, which reinforces the connection to the outside.
The open concept was continued into the kitchen where the decision was made to eliminate all wall cabinets. This allows for oversized windows, unusual in most kitchens, to wrap the corner dissolving the sense of containment. A large, double-loaded island, capped with a single slab of stone, provides the required storage. A bar and beverage center back up to the family room, allowing for graceful gathering around the kitchen. Windows fill as much wall space as possible; the effect is a comfortable, completely light-filled room that feels like it is nestled among the trees. It has proven to be the center of family activity and the heart of the residence.

This front yard was in desperate need of a little curb appeal and we were up to the challenge! Wanting a unique look, we put a twist on the classic front stoop and walkway design by adding more patio space, an inset circle for a portable fire pit, and a seat wall to separate the patio space from the attached driveway.
The patio features Belgard's Laffit Rustic Slab pavers in London Grey with a soldiers course of Holland Stone in Ashbury Haze. The inset circle is comprised of Holland Stone in Bristol Beige. The contrasting colors create a stunning design element. The seat wall and raised flowerbed were built with Weston Wall bricks, also in Ashbury Haze. A simple, elegant, and unique design that would compliment any home.

The inviting front entrance landscaping sets the tone for the entire natural landscape design project in Cresskill NJ. The formal landscape in the front of the home transitions nicely into a luxury backyard oasis of varying textures in the backyard pool area. Potted plants, trees, shrubs, and perennials accent the front entry patio beautifully.
