Your Favorite Room By Cathy Zaeske
This project was designed long distance using e-design, online interactive design mood board and write up which gave my client all of the information they needed to execute this family friendly, multi-use basement on their own. I helped provide the vision and sourcing, but most importantly explained the WHY behind the decisions I made for the playroom, office, craft/office area, dining, mudroom, etc. Equipped with these tools and the thinking that went into each choice, allowed the client to execute the design on their own timeline. They are still slowly but surely adding to the space (occasionally contacting me with welcome questions), knowing they are "on track" using the end vision we created months ago as their guide. Read for yourselves their thoughts about working with me long distance...

Inspired by sandy shorelines on the California coast, this beachy blonde floor brings just the right amount of variation to each room. With the Modin Collection, we have raised the bar on luxury vinyl plank. The result is a new standard in resilient flooring. Modin offers true embossed in register texture, a low sheen level, a rigid SPC core, an industry-leading wear layer, and so much more.

This space was inspired from a bright multi-color graphic fabric. Black was used throughout as a grounding force. It helps frame the space and gives it a
sophisticated feel, providing a place for your eye to rest between the hits of color. The playful pops of color give the space some life - perfect for an energetic family. Given the low ceilings and lack of natural light, it was essential to make the space feel as bright and airy as possible - mirrors and strategic lighting help to achieve this feel. Built-ins help to give the space a custom high-end feel while providing much needed storage and functionality.

Constantine Design Group, Inc.
This early 20th century Indianapolis, IN basement remodel was in desperate need of help. The original and still operating hydronic radiant heating system had its plumbing configured without regard to any other use of the space. Fearful of harming the aged system and the high cost of doing so, these Clients were adamant that the existing system remain intact. Architect Lee Constantine developed a design that maintained the existing heating system while creating "niches" around the perimeter that would conceal the unsightly plumbing. Additionally, by removing free-standing structural supporting posts, amore flexible and inviting space was achieved. Because of an already low ceiling condition, the floor-ceiling structure above was kept exposed, painted and highlighted with indirect lighting to avoid further reducing the ceiling height. Constantine incorporated "clouds" on this ceiling to conceal certain existing components that either were cost prohibitive to relocate or couldn't be relocated. These "clouds"become a "visual element" through their geometry and hidden "indirect" light source rather than an undesirable complication. Now this family entertains frequently in the basement and reports "it doesn't feel like we're in a basement anymore"
