Chillcoots
This Chillcoots custom home overlooking the Fraser Valley is located in Rendezvous, near Winter Park, Colorado. The views looking west span from Byers Peak to Winter Park Resort ski area. Great care was taken into consideration for the exterior of this home, utilizing true reclaimed exterior materials obtained from a ranch and its barns in southwestern Colorado. To accent the reclaimed wood, we incorporated mixed materials such as rusted corrugated siding and a metal roof. The interior of the home is truly designed to be family-friendly.

Nye Saunders Ltd.
Nye Saunders designed, and together with D&M Planning Consultants obtained planning consent for this 2/3 bedroom detached contemporary home and garage / garden store following the demolition of a smaller existing house and outbuildings. The site is located in the Green Belt, and in the sensitive Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Area of Great Landscape Value (AGLV). The design concept was driven by the approach into the site which called for the visitor to be presented with the strong, simple gable profile of a house and its daughter garage in their most basic form. The new house optimises ‘upside down living’ with the main living accommodation at first floor level and the bedrooms at ground floor.
The building is steel and timber framed achieving high levels of insulation and is clad with sustainable-sourced Frake timber and pre-weather zinc standing seam roof. The building is heated via sustainable ground source heat pump and a wood burning stove and incorporates a Mechanical ventilation and Heat Recovery (MVHR) system.
Simply Sofas

TYPE: Realized project
“Might we suggest that… if the pulsing LED begins to drive you crazy, turn the box round so the LED faces to the wall or the back of your shelf” questo è il suggerimento leggibile all’interno del cartoncino dell’album Pulse dei Pink Floyd da cui scaturisce il concept creativo di questo appartamento di 65 mq situato a Roma: un progetto di interni vivo e pulsante che ben rispecchia l’animo dei proprietari, un musicista e una dottoressa in attesa del primo figlio.
“Might we suggest that… if the pulsing LED begins to drive you crazy, turn the box round so the LED faces to the wall or the back of your shelf” this is the readable suggestion within the Pulse album by Pink Floyd gives rise to the creative concept of this 65 square meter apartment located in Rome: a living and pulsating interior project that well reflects the soul of the owners, a musician and a doctor waiting for their first child. The renovation project has completely upset the living area of the apartment, preferring a large open space obtained by eliminating a long corridor between the kitchen and the living room, while the design proposal in the sleeping area leaves unchanged the two bedrooms and the bathroom. With the new planimetric distribution, right from the entrance, there is a creative emotion that refers to the sensations experienced in perceiving for the first time the heartbeat of the future child: in fact, the rows of artificial grass at various heights recall the display of the heart rate. A part of the living room has been raised and completely covered in oak parquet, to act as a stage for the grand piano, the focal point of the entire living area. Used like a backdrop to the piano there is an absolute white wall on which a decorative painting has been placed that creates a play of lights and shadows. Of great visual and architectural impact was the choice of lights: black lacquered circles of different diameters stand out at various heights spreading LED light on the ceiling, harmoniously, reminding the album cover with its LED buttons. The black lacquered metal shelves spread the light on the wall, emphasizing the material texture of the painting. The kitchen is minimal, essential, with the graft of the table that seems to float thanks to the light and elegant support of the glass leg. Everything is played on the tones of white and black, recalling the piano keyboard and the creative impulse that, when it is so strong, does not allow nuances.

The newly constructed, three-storey property features an ‘upside down’ design that maximises the sweeping views and abundance of natural light of the Malvern Hills, with living areas on the top floor and bedrooms comprising the lower floors. Designed to be spacious and family friendly, the living areas on the third floor are entirely open plan.
Speaking of the build, Nick said: “Our brief was to design a unique cliffside property that was founded upon the principles of Passive House design. To ensure we achieved the best results I took the client along to a Passive House training session. We used materials such as stone, timber and glass to achieve this. Most of the stone we used was recycled from the hill itself, which we obtained during the digging process when laying the foundations. All products were chosen especially for their thermal efficiency.”

GNAM Architecture
Contemporary apartment located in Vila Madalena, bohemian neighborhood of São Paulo.
The renovation has been focused along three guidelines:
Removing the utility room, in order to obtain a larger and brighter living space. Combining kitchen, dining room and living room thanks to custom furniture, ad hoc designed to optimize space, for a fluid and versatile use and to minimize the visual pollution of the household appliances.
A relaxing and functional suite, characterized by a well-designed closet, creating a small work area with its personal desk, into the same piece of furniture.
Revitalization of the bathrooms, just through the use of colors.
The choice of colors, materials, and abundant usage of green, want to revive the mix of urban and tropical characters, typical of the south american metropolis.

Located on a corner plot, the site gave opportunity to design an atypical extension for the area. Although obtaining planning permission was challenging, it was proven that a flat roof single storey wing projecting 9.5m off the rear of the house would have no detrimental impact on neighbours and completely change the function, layout and circulation of the house.
Shifting the orientation of the extension 90° results in two sides of the house opening up to the garden, with the new aspect south facing. This significantly improves the overall connection to the garden and forms a bright and naturally lit space.
The extension hosts a large kitchen, dining and living space with two sets of bi-fold steel framed doors and roof lanterns.

London Garden Designer
This property in the heart of Hampstead has stunning views due to its elevated position. The clients were keen to maximise this and ensure that the garden and roof top skyline remained visible from the ground floor.
A steep slope at the rear created a dangerous fall that was fenced off for safety, and some very oppressive overgrown conifers cast heavy shade across the garden.
Permission was obtained to remove the conifers and the light flooded in. To ensure continued privacy from the neighbours’ raised adjoining terraces, we planted a row of pleached X Sycoparrotia semidecidua, an unusual variety of semi evergreen tree with attractive early flowers.
A decent size lawn area was retained around the central ornamental cherry tree, and a 3 metre deep, herbaceous borders span the full width of the garden, creating a diaphanous backdrop above which skyline is visible.
A full height glass window vertically spans the 4-storey house, creating a strong visual link with the garden from each floor. We echoed this feature by creating a mirror image of the tall window across the patio and lawn, using lines of hardwood deck and full width stone treads through the lawn, culminating in a water feature suspended above the steep rear slope. A cantilevered deck off sets this and provides an outdoor lounge area to capture the setting sun over the Hampstead horizon.

A client asked me to build a custom picture frame with lights inside so the picture would be illuminated from behind through the canvas.
After building a boxed frame, I installed LED strips inside, but even a 60 ft-long LED strip was not bright enough to illuminate the large 72”x24” size picture. I ended up using four LED light tubes to obtain the brightness I was looking for. The picture glows nicely even in daylight and the client was very happy.
