Artichoke
The design for this bespoke kitchen was inspired by the kitchen in Castle Drogo, designed by the architect Edwin Lutyens. Artichoke was involved in the design of the kitchen aswell as the interior architectural detailing of the chimney corbels and inset dish above the Aga (both details taken from other Lutyens buildings). The stone on the two islands is 30mm thick although 20mm was set into the furniture to ensure visitors are not presented with a wall of stone on entering the room. The top cabinets were inset into the wall and lacquered to colour-match the interior design, hiding them from view.

Maximizing the functionality of this space, and coordinating the new kitchen with the beautiful remodel completed previously by the client were the two most important aspects of this project. The existing spaces are elegantly decorated with an open plan, dark hardwood floors, and natural stone accents. The new, lighter, more open kitchen flows beautifully into the client’s existing dining room space. Satin nickel hardware blends with the stainless steel appliances and matches the satin nickel details throughout the home. The fully integrated refrigerator next to the narrow pull-out pantry cabinet, take up less visual weight than a traditional stainless steel appliance and the two combine to provide fantastic storage. The glass cabinet doors and decorative lighting beautifully highlight the client’s glassware and dishes. Finished with white subway tile, Dreamy Marfil quartz countertops, and a warm natural wood blind; the space warm, inviting, elegant, and extremely functional.

This little laundry room uses hidden tricks to modernize and maximize limited space. The main wall features bumped out upper cabinets above the washing machine for increased storage and easy access. Next to the cabinets are open shelves that allow space for the air vent on the back wall. This fan was faux painted to match the cabinets - blending in so well you wouldn’t even know it’s there!
Between the cabinetry and blue fantasy marble countertop sits a luxuriously tiled backsplash. This beautiful backsplash hides the door to necessary valves, its outline barely visible while allowing easy access.
Making the room brighter are light, textured walls, under cabinet, and updated lighting. Though you can’t see it in the photos, one more trick was used: the door was changed to smaller french doors, so when open, they are not in the middle of the room. Door backs are covered in the same wallpaper as the rest of the room - making the doors look like part of the room, and increasing available space.

Home bar - small contemporary single-wall home bar idea in Calgary with no sink, open cabinets, dark wood cabinets, white backsplash and white countertops
Packard Cabinetry of North Carolina
The kitchen is the central focus of the main living area, defined by an angled breakfast bar with a facade of narrow, rectangular limestone slate tiles set in a random pattern. Leathered Cappuccino granite with a chiseled edge by Viktor's Granite and Marble dresses the top. The industrial style pendant fixtures are from Christie's Lighting. Brodie Smith of Packard Cabinetry added the compact wine bar, positioned for convenient access from the adjoining living room. Impeccable workmanship is evident in the cabinetry, which was custom designed and hand-crafted by Packard Cabinetry. The cooking area's "hearth" is maple and given a deep espresso glaze. A shallow niche, inset into the tumbled marble tile backsplash, echoes the narrow tiles of the breakfast bar facing and is artfully illuminated by LED lights. The faux apothecary drawers on either side conceal pull-out spice racks.
