The design of this remodel of a small two-level residence in Noe Valley reflects the owner's passion for Japanese architecture. Having decided to completely gut the interior partitions, we devised a better-arranged floor plan with traditional Japanese features, including a sunken floor pit for dining and a vocabulary of natural wood trim and casework. Vertical grain Douglas Fir takes the place of Hinoki wood traditionally used in Japan. Natural wood flooring, soft green granite and green glass backsplashes in the kitchen further develop the desired Zen aesthetic. A wall to wall window above the sunken bath/shower creates a connection to the outdoors. Privacy is provided through the use of switchable glass, which goes from opaque to clear with a flick of a switch. We used in-floor heating to eliminate the noise associated with forced-air systems.

Dura Supreme Cabinetry
Storage Solutions - A vanity grooming rack (VGC) is a must-have for curling irons and blow-dryers.
“Loft” Living originated in Paris when artists established studios in abandoned warehouses to accommodate the oversized paintings popular at the time. Modern loft environments idealize the characteristics of their early counterparts with high ceilings, exposed beams, open spaces, and vintage flooring or brickwork. Soaring windows frame dramatic city skylines, and interior spaces pack a powerful visual punch with their clean lines and minimalist approach to detail. Dura Supreme cabinetry coordinates perfectly within this design genre with sleek contemporary door styles and equally sleek interiors.
This kitchen features Moda cabinet doors with vertical grain, which gives this kitchen its sleek minimalistic design. Lofted design often starts with a neutral color then uses a mix of raw materials, in this kitchen we’ve mixed in brushed metal throughout using Aluminum Framed doors, stainless steel hardware, stainless steel appliances, and glazed tiles for the backsplash.

In the design stages many details were incorporated in this classic kitchen to give it dimension since the surround cabinets, counters and backsplash were white. Polished nickel plumbing, hardware and custom grilles on feature cabinets along with the island pendants add shine, while finer details such as inset doors, furniture kicks on non-working areas and lofty crown details add a layering effect in the millwork. Surround counters as well as 3" x 6" backsplash tile are Calacutta Gold stone, while island counter surface is walnut. Conveniences include a 60" Wolf range, a 36" Subzero refrigerator and freezer and two farmhouse sinks by Kallista. The kitchen also boasts two dishwashers (one in the island and one to the right of the sink cabinet under the window) and a coffee bar area with a built-in Miele. Photo by Pete Maric.

This new house on a sloping site is oriented due south to capture light and views of Lake Washington and Mount Rainier. The exterior features a slate roof, stained shingles, stone base, and copper gutters and downspouts, which harmonize with the natural palette of the site and complement the interior's stained fir cabinetry and trim. The south facing deck, covered porch, and bays connect the primary living rooms to the views.
The kitchen features custom cabinets of stained, clear vertical grain fir, Black Absolute granite countertops, a ceramic tile backsplash, bronze hardware and stainless steel appliances. A serving counter, flanked by doorways on either side, opens to the great room for entertaining and creates a seamless connection between the kitchen, dining, and living rooms.

This picture perfect destination retreat is uniquely situated above the town of Mosier and almost literally on the top edge of a dramatic basalt cliff. The clients’ commitment to minimal waste provided an opportunity for us to get creative, repurposing materials and implementing a number of eco-friendly touches.
The design required several tricky elements, which our team was delighted to engage with, including the installation of stainless steel toe kicks under the cabinets and around the island to tie together the industrial accents throughout.
Four pendant lights hang level with one another, mounted into an insulated, wood-paneled vaulted ceiling. We also installed accent lighting above the existing steel beams to cast a soft glow onto the wood ceiling.
We coordinated with a cabinet maker to reface the existing cabinets with new cabinet doors, side panels and edge banding, and new full extension and soft close hardware.
Tucked away, off the kitchen, is little nook, perfect for combing through recipes or tackling a little work while gazing out at the gardens. These cabinets were custom built to match the kitchen. We replaced the existing baseboards here and house-wide with a custom-milled slim profile base that complements the vertical grain fir finishes throughout the home.

This mid-century modern was a full restoration back to this home's former glory. The vertical grain fir ceilings were reclaimed, refinished, and reinstalled. The floors were a special epoxy blend to imitate terrazzo floors that were so popular during this period. The quartz countertops waterfall on both ends and the handmade tile accents the backsplash. Reclaimed light fixtures, hardware, and appliances put the finishing touches on this remodel.

The living area has an open floor plan with kitchen, living area, and entertainment corner. The ceilings are vertical grain Douglas Fir. French Oak is found in the walls and the TV entertainment system shelves. Flooring in this main area of the home is Jerusalem Gold tile. The built in desk nook allows for every day practicals and the built in nooks and shelves allow for art and knick-knacks to be tastefully displayed. The fireplace is a linear fireplace with custom concrete facade and a walnut mantle. There is a live-edge walnut cantilever indoor/outdoor table with sliding glass barn doors on either side that allows access to the outdoor living-cooking area. The tall frosted-glass pivot doors lead to a separate office and a play room, both off the main living area.
The kitchen boasts a custom Spekva counter with waterfall edge. The cabinetry is custom made walnut. There is a breakfast bar with pendant lighting above as well as a kitchen-breakfast nook.

Embark on a culinary crave with this classic gray and white family kitchen. We chose a warm neutral color for the cabinetry and enhanced this warmth with champagne gold cabinet hardware. These warm gray cabinets can be found at your neighborhood Lowes while the champagne hardware are designed by Atlas. Add another accent of shine to your kitchen and check out the mother of pearl diamond mosaic tile backsplash by Jeffrey Court, as seen here. Adding this hint of sparkle to your small space will allow your kitchen to stay bright and chic. Don't be afraid to mix metals or color. This island houses the glass cook top with a stainless steel hood above the island, and we added a matte black as our finish for the Edison lighting as well as black bar stool seating to tie it all together. The Taj Mahal white Quartzite counter tops are a beauty. The contrast in color creates dimension to your small kitchen layout and will continually catch your eye.
